It was a good match. I'm surprised Tommy held it together. He really should
have won going away in the fifth.

Robredo's return of serve really surprised me, particularly off the
backhand. Didn't know he was capable of it.

Yes, it was, and people should stop saying that Safin lost it because
he is a head case or something. You can't expect that he plays his
absolute best all the time. He played pretty well, and he was beaten
by a good clay courter who played very well.

R's backhand isn't weak, but surely Safin could have attacked more in
general. He disarmed himself to an extent.................

Yes, I watched the whole match this morning. Both players have more winners
than UEs in the fifth set. Safin was not playing as well as what he did
against JCF, low serve percentage and very few aces. Robredo is attacking
really well. He has more winners than Safin and much less UEs. He moves
extremely well in picking up drop shots. His has a lot inside-out winners
which is very effective against Safin today. And very beautiful on-the-run
passing shots on both sides. I'm surprised that Safin didn't do much with
his backhand-down-the-line shot which he used effectively against JCF.

SAFIN = The biggest waste of talent tennis has seen. Even with him
wasting his talent he was still able to win 2 slams. Makes you wonder
how good he could really be if he was a smarter player.

Maybe he is just not good enough. His low risk game means he can lose to
anyone if he is having a off day, of course it means he is almost unbeatable
if he is having one of his best days.

Safin was good enough at 20 to beat your hero Sampras in straights at> the U.S. Open final.>
Safin was also good enough to defeat Federer at the semis of the> Australian this year.

2 outstanding performances in half a decade that led to slam wins.

career?

What matters is your form at slams, apart from the 2 times he won Safin has
rarely played his best at these events (AO 2004/AO 2002 perhaps).
