It was Mary Carrillo and that other boring layman who used to team up with Johnny Mac in US Open finals. But no Johnny Mac.
Carrillo did her best trying come up with some funny lines but lacking insights on the either the match momentum or tactical, strategic aspects, they failed to notice or mention almost every important crucial point of the match, like that bad call Nadal got at 0-30 4-4? on Fed's serve in 3rd set.
God I miss having good commentators like Johnny Mac or even Luke Jensen.

I'd settle for just being able to buy DVDs of the damned matches. Could be done through the web site of the event, for up to a month or so after the event is over.

To me, the most irritating thing about Mary Carillo is when she is a commentator in a match involving Maria Sharapova. If you haven't noticed by now, she is a huge Sharapova apologist. She just praises Maria to the high heavens and elevates her status to a goddess whenever she is commentatiing one of her matches. It's get kinda old after awhile.

She's just a bit of a WTA shill: she'll praise *anyone* she thinks is good for the game. See, e.g., her take on the Williams Sisters: she was quite critical of them when they were outsiders upsetting the status quo, but as soon as the publicity machine ingested them she became quite the little fangirl. I don't think that makes her biased for or against any particular player, just *very* annoying, because she's hardly ever balanced in her critiques.

I totally agree with you that her position on the Williams sisters changes with the wind, or perhaps with her whim. If you remember in the AO, she ragged on Serena for her candor remark to Bud Collins when he asked her whether their (the sisters) skills had deteriorated in the last few years. Serena finally broke her silence on the matter and though she did not explicity say "yes", she did say say that both of them had gone through some extraordinary circumstances like the death of their half-sister and major injuries. Mary then said in one of the matches that their skills definitely had deteriorated and that Serena's answer to Bud Collins was uncalled for. I really didn't get any sense that Serena was being "disrespectful " of Bud Collins but Mary was way off in left field thinking she was.

That was of course the darling, knowledgeable Bill Macatee, a young clone of our own dear Dickie-Berg. So when Dickie-Berge hits the fan, Billy Boy will take over and you won't know that anything has changed.
