Borg bt Lendl 6-1 4-6 6-2 3-6 6-1. A 6 to Borg as I rate this about on a par with his '79 FO. He didn't drop a set until the Final but wasn't devastating. A guide to his form compared to '80 was that he dropped eight games this time to Balazs Taroczy while a year earlier he only conceded four games to that player. Lendl gets a 4; he struggled to make it dropping six sets on the way to the Final - including almost losing to Gomez in the second round and Clerc in the semi. Clerc gets a 2 for his effort.
1981 W
McEnroe bt Borg 4-6 7-6 7-6 6-4. A 7 to Mac, a 4 for Borg. Mac wasn't devastating, losing sets to Ramirez and veteran Stan Smith on his way through and Borg had to come back from 2 sets to love down to Connors in the semi (he also lost the first set 0-6!) so more signs that Borg was slipping. Connors gets a 2.
1981 USO
McEnroe bt Borg 4-6 6-2 6-4 6-3. I'm tempted to give Mac an 8 but finally plumped for a 7 because he wasn't that great making it to the Final. Vitas took him to five in the semi and he lost sets to the Chilean Nunez in Round One (you know, in the olde days the early rounds were always a breeze for the top guys....) and the silky Ramesh Krishnan (the smoothest player I've ever seen BTW) in the QF. Borg gets a 4; he played a listless Final making FOUR unheard-of (for him) UE's in one crucial game. Oddly he seemed in good form up to that point, brushing aside Connors in straights in the Semi and beating old Nemesis, Roscoe Tanner in 4 sets in the QF. And so the Borg Era ended.....Vitas gets a 2.
1981 AO
Kriek bt Denton 6-2 7-6 6-7 6-3. Kriek gets a 2, Denton a 1. A guide to the form here is that Kriek was beaten on the Wimbledon grass five months earlier 6-1 7-5 6-1 by Mac....

Lendl gets a 4???. He took two sets of the greatest clay courter ever in his very 1st final?

Grass was not suited to Borg's game. He still managed to win it 5 times and made the 6th finals in a row. And you give him a 4?

Kriek should get 1 and Denton a 0. AO pre 1983 were a joke.

As it was "B" Borg in 1981 and he blitzed Lendl in the three sets he won (very typical of Borg when his enthusiasm was only sporadic) and Lendl barely made it to the Final - yes.

In this particular tournament, yes. In other years I gave him 7's........BTW the fact that grass was less suited to his game than clay is the reason his scores are less than at RG.
Kriek should get 1 and Denton a 0. AO pre 1983 were a joke.
