OK, *I* have a problem with ESPN2. Normally, I like them, but now, they're eligible for the Dilbert award or whatever award we creatively come up with. Ideas anyone? The Ticker Award? The "You Really Didn't Care About The Outcome Of This Match Award"?
During the 3rd set tie-breaker, at 4-4, the ticker scrolls by at the bottom of the screen. First the Federer result and then I see Hewitt def. Roddick, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 (7-5). I tried to convince my brain that I did not see such a thing, and blurred my eyes as the ticker scrolled on by.
So there I was, not reading the newsgroups, staying away from sports news, just to watch this match. And during the match, ESPN2 gives the result, AS I AM WATCHING THE 3RD SET TIEBREAKER. I rewound the tape just to double check and yes, there it was.
Did anyone else suffer this travesty? Must be that the bad performers from ESPN are shuffled over to ESPN2.
Don't worry, the Federer/Hewitt final today is live. Otherwise, we might get the score in the 5th set tie-breaker via ticker.
I don't disagree that this was a bone-headed mistake that completely spoiled the match, but I'm still grateful that they showed the entire match, rather than chopping it up to fit the scheduled 2 hour time slot. With ESPN and tennis, you just have to keep your expectations low (and your eyes off the crawler).

I must admit that is a travesty. That should never happen.

Yes, because anyone watching a tape-delay of the match can be presumed to not want to know the score. Not true with rst...

We should all write to ESPN2 to tell them to never do that again. Anyone have the right link?

Yeah. I noticed this, too, and just had a laugh about it. I already knew the result, but thought those who didn't would be pissed.
I think it had to do with the match starting and running later than scheduled. Funny Car lasted a half hour later than it was supposed to. Then ESPN, thankfully, showed the entire match, which lasted 3 hours instead of 2. Someone assumed it would be safe.
A mistake, for sure, but one I can live with as I had a chance to see the match in its entirety. A real gem.
I've emailed them before (they did the same thing during their coverage of the US Davis Cup doubles match - scrolled the score), but no response. I've also emailed them during this and last years Australian Open and last years French Open with not even an acknowledgment that the message was received.

Please complain to THEM -- they don't read this newsgroup, and if no one writes in and complains they won't see any reason to change it.

Oh I will, not only that but I'm going to insist they send me tickets for compensation. I've been with them for a long long time. I'd like tickets to Key Biscayne, or the US Open, please. They owe me.
