It was the first time during his career that he had pulled out of a match in the middle of a tournment. He had pulled out many times before a tournament, and retired during a match injured, but had never failed to make it to court once into the tournament.

Lendl and Connors won 1000+ matches. If they never pulled out of a match, Agassi's record is not a record.
