Mauresmo chokes it up again...

Guest 14 March 2005 10:37:39
As soon as I found out that Mauresmo had a chance to capture the #1
ranking, I knew she would find a way to lose. I don't understand why
she doesn't see a psychiatrist for her severe mental issues.

In fact she *has* worked with a sport psychologist. Though it
doesn't seem to have done her any good yet.

She probably needs a lobotomy more than a sports psychologist.

What sort of changes?

When one could so easily be first best in the world, that's when.

There can be no doubt that Mauresmo chokes big matches. If you want
to say that that's not surprising or unusual, I can hardly argue.
But she *does* choke big matches. She chokes at Slams, she chokes
when #1 is on the line, and she especially chokes at Roland Garros.

It's not unique; Clijsters has a similar record. And Novotna was
famous for it -- and eventually won Wimbledon anyway. So there is
at least a little hope. Maybe if Mauresmo could somehow face, say,
Dechy in the Roland Garros final. :-)

Even then she might not do it.

Tell us something new. Nowadays, I like to see her lose. It is fun!

playing Dementieva would be even better, choke-wise

Anywhere but Roland Garros, I'd agree. But imagine
Dechy suddenly in an all-French final in Paris. It
would be like Novotna and Tauziat at Wimbledon: Both would
be impossibly nervous, so the better player would win.

*HEY*! No picking on Dechy! You do and I'll give you *such* a pinch!

I think in such a situation Dementieva would come through.

But is Dechy known as a choker? It's entirely possible that she might view
it as her one big chance -- and take it. That also happens sometimes.

You mean Dementieva vs. Mauresmo in a Roland Garros final?
Probably.

My gut feeling is that she isn't really a choker, but that she
also can't win the really big one against a stronger player. That's
a lot harder to prove than pure choking, of course.
