(sarcasm on) Darn it! When will Roger stop scraping through? He scrapes through yet again, 61 67 (8) 63. He must be truly awful, with a 20-1 record for the year (best in the world) and just 3 titles from 4 tournaments (and an SF loss to the champion in the 4th)! (sarcasm off) Those who have an axe to grind get a clue.

Unless he defends his Wimbeldon/USO not to mention Masters titles it means nothing. What should worry Federer is that someone as lowly as Ljubicic is giving him a lot of trouble these days; it does not bode well for his future encounters will top 10 players.

You mean 5th, right?

'lowly' Ljubicic is currently top 15.

Ljubicic is one of a small group of players, like Nalbandian and Safin, who play a certain type of game and troubles Federer. If you look at their head-to-head, Ljubicic has troubled Federer for most of his career, it's not a recent development, and given that he has been in 4 finals already this year, he is one of the hottest players around, and your description of him as being "lowly" is uninformed and biased.

Furthermore, Ljubicic is on fire this year having reached 4 finals I think ... That puts him as a potential top 10 player.

Definitely. The problem will be that he won't be able to keep these results going during the clay court season and he hasn't done anything of note at the Slams, which is probably what's holding him back. -- Luke Croll The alt.books.dean-koontz FAQ is at: http://home.earthlink.net/~abdk-faq/faq.htm The ABDK Castle is at: http://home.earthlink.net/~koontz-castle/
I would expect Federer to win Wimbledon and maybe the US Open this year. Although I feel that not even Wimbledon is for definite, Ljubicic and Johannson could trouble him with their serves. But if Fed fails to emulate his achievements of last year in the slam, the chances of him reaching Sampras' 14 slams look low. Had he swept all 4 this year, he would have been right on track.

14 looks impossible, but he can still reach tier 1 with another 3 or 4 solid yrs.
He probably should aim for tier 2 (need Mac/Jimbo type numbers in blue-chips), & anything else is gravy.
