Lleyton Hewitt believes his most recent month-long layoff with an ankle
injury has put him in a good position to mount a serious challenge for
the Australian Open title next month.

Hewitt missed the final month of this season through injury but believes
it will work in his favour since most of the world's top players are
fatigued after a gruelling schedule that included Masters tournaments in
Madrid and Paris, and the Masters Cup in Shanghai.

"I'm going to be a lot fresher than [Roger] Federer," said the former
world number one.

"Even when you look at [Novak] Djokovic, [Rafael] Nadal and [Nikolay]
Davydenko, they were getting tired at the Masters Cup so I'm going to be
a lot fresher than those guys, but I've just got to try and get some
matches under my belt."

Good spin! Too bad they don't play the AO right now when everyone else
is on vacation!

Now, I'd really like to see Hewitt go out in the 1st round so that
next year he shuts his trap.

He hopes that he will meet Federer in the SF with his former coach in
Hewitt's box!

He did ask for a postponement of that match to Feb 24th but that was not
granted.

Hewitt can do well in the AO but he will need more than rest to beat
Federer.

The "knife" even.

That relative freshness guarantees Hewitt a game per et, without a
doubt.
And I *do wish* he was the player he was in his prime, btw. Time
marches on.
The trouble is that his obnoxiousness appears to be directly
proportional to his success. He seems like a nice guy at the moment.

So it is the same thing than with the fans?

He has Coachey Rochey in his corner. Think he might have a clue or two?

He did play well against Federer in both Montreal and Cincy this year.
