Sweden wins comfortably in this _friendly_.
We'll see what happens when the serious stuff begins.

At RÃ¥sunda Stadium. The attendance was a huge disappointment. They had
anticipated 20000. 2503 came...

that's dreadful! i hope that this attendance figure isn't typical of
women's national team matches. i saw both the swedes and the canadians
in the '03 world cup and i thought it was very entertaining stuff.

I'd be surprised if it isn't. I'm quite certain that the only country in
the world where attendance figures are even close to close between mens'
and womens' soccer is the USA.

Btw: these are the average attendances in the "best womens' league" in the
world right now:
2804 Umeå IK
1730 QBIK
1555 Sunnanå SK
1296 Malmö FF DFF
1288 KIF Örebro DFF
1254 Linköpings FC
1015 Djurgården/Älvsjí
697 Själevads IK
686 Mallbackens IF
602 Kopparbergs/Göteborg
531 Hammarby IF DFF
454 AIK

Contrast with the Superettan attendance figures (Mens' 2nd level):
AIK 10 699
IFK Norrköping 6 627
Örebro SK 4 944
GAIS 3 827
Östers IF 3 345
Mjällby AIF 3 192
Degerfors IF 2 398
IF Brommapojkarna 2 198
Västerås SK 2 054
Bodens BK 1 843
Trelleborgs FF 1 839
Ã…tvidaberg FF 1 641
Västra Frölunda IF 1 248
Falkenbergs FF 1 161
Ljungskile SK 994
Väsby United 615

Canada would like to differ. :) The women's NT usually draws good
crowds (I went to a Canada/Brazil friendly in Montreal two years ago
that drew 13,000+) and gets good support compared to the men's NT mainly
because we can actually be competitive. (My theory is that the top tier
of women's teams in the world can beat one another on any given day, but
get out of that tier and it's one-sided.)

By contrast, the Montreal Impact (USL Division One; second-tier in the
US) drew a whopping 12,086 for the season opener yesterday. :D

The Mexican national team played this Saturday a friendly against
Barcelona's women, in Toluca. Attendance was close to 20,000, see the
link. They broadcasted the match, which was entertaining. There was
a debut in the Mexican team of a really promising 14-year old. (Mexico
won 2-0). Little by little, women's soccer in Mexico is getting
stronger.
