Guadalajara will be missing some key players too, due to injuries, the
CC, and the WC qualifyers. The substitutes have been doing it well,
though.

Priorities, priorities...

CBF, acting like born bullies, is arrogantly saying that "whoever doesn't
show up for the Confederations Cup will be more distant from the World Cup
squad". They're basing it all on the argument that it is an official
competition in the WC host nation, so it is an opportunity to see how the
full squad will do "under WC conditions" (since they'll be together for a
few weeks in Germany, training, etc)...

I even like the idea of a Confed Cup, but clearly there is no room for it in
the international schedule. The players already won't have any rest in
June/July of 2006, and CBF will exhaust them more taking away the 2005 rest
as well. It won't do any good in terms of the morale of the squad either, no
one wants to be there; Cafu and Roberto Carlos were granted rests (probably
because of their age), Ronaldo will try to talk his way out of the team
(he's supposed to meet Parreira in a few days), Adriano was threatened to be
left out of the WC because he wanted to play the Coppa Italia final with
Inter. Ricardo Oliveira was also going to ask to be left behind and play the
Copa del Rey final, but given the precedent, I don't know what was made of
that.

Meanwhile, Santos also loses its key players at a tough moment of the
Libertadores. All this mess because of some third rate tournament.

Since Argentina is also in the Confederations Cup, I wonder how the AFA is
dealing with the issue? Whether they'll send a full squad, or if it would
include Boca or River players, etc.
