Milan : PSV - which ESPN?

Elko Tchernev 26 April 2005 23:49:18
I'm watching the game on coolstreaming, ESPN, and the soundtrack is in
English. I'm just curious - which ESPN feed would that be? The local
cable ESPN in New York shows some completely different crap at the
moment. (And the commentary is pretty good - no trace of that
brain-damaged duo from ESPN2).

ESPN goes out all over the world, often with the same commentary. So
probably an English speaking feed going to Asia or Australia.

Fucked up that the first American to play in a CL semi-final and the
wankers don't show it in the US.

Thank God for coolstreaming.

Most probably ESPN Asia which hails from Taiwan (there are other ESPN
Asias though). They use an English language feed, whereas the other
ESPN Asias use locals.

Right. It was ESPN-Deportes only in the US. Tomorrow's match will be
on the Deuce.

(Didn't they promise that during the CL 'playoffs' we would get a
Tues/Wed match both?)
(And the commentary is pretty good - no trace of that >brain-damaged duo from ESPN2).

If it was in English, then guess what? They are using the usual ESPN
presenter possibilities, even if it's not Mike Hill and Tommy Smyth.

Possibly you got Seamus Malin and the other chap.

I think the ESPN Asia on coolstreaming is from China. Usually there is
Chinese commentary/translation over the English.

That figures. At some point after I had posted this question, a
message in hieroglyphs came up on the screen, that looked like Chinese
to me (I don't know Chinese). Everything else though, including the
commercials at half-time, was in English.

I don't know. I usually don't pay too much attention to the
commentary (unless it is jarringly bad), but this time it felt like it
was a single guy commenting throughout. If there was any dialogue, I
didn't notice. At the places when you would expect it, (at full time)
there was just the one guy going about how unjust the score was and how
PSV deserved more, and how unhappy they would be, etc.

Could be yes, but I recall, both using a website I know of in the Far
East, and also via Soccerstreams (RIP), that ESPN Asia had at least
two countries of origin.

As you say, there is Chinese commentary over the English via ESPN Asia
eminating from or direct to China, but there's also ESPN Asia Taiwan
which shows the English-language only ESPN International.

I'm almost sure that you were getting ESPN Asia Taiwan, then. It's
actually a great channel, since they show a much more eclectic
selection than ESPN1/2 from the US.

(Snooker, darts, golf from Europe, etc.)

That sounds like Seamus. The other guy with him, as you can see by the
fact that I don't remember his name, is forgettable. :)

If he sounds slight depressed, for sure that's Seamus. People on RSS
have told me they like him, but though I see their point as compared
to Tommy Smyth, etc., his monotone voice bores me.

Hey it's better than nothing right? :)
