Since everybody's posting about relegation and cups, I, gloryhunter as I am, thought it might be a good idea to have a look at the championship races across Europe. Feel free to add, correct, fill in the gaps, fill in your favorite league.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Bundesliga (standings after MD 30 of 34)
Bayern 65 Schalke 56 Stuttgart 55
It was interesting for a while, then Schalke collapsed
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Serie A (after MD 33 of 38)
Milan 73 Juve 73
Milan has practically clinched this one The last formality is the Milan-Juve encounter on May 8 in San Siro.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ligue 1 (after MD 34 of 38) Lyon 69 Lille 58
Lyon needs two points to clinc the championship. This year le championnat was pretty boring.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- La Liga (after MD 33 of 38)
Barcelona 75 Real Madrid 69
It looks as if Barca will hang on for this one. We all feel for Real who were done in by the refs...
------------------------------------------------------------------------ English Premiership (after MD 35 of 38)
Chelsea 85 Arsenal 71 (with a game in hand).
Chelsea clinches the title is Arsenal fails to beat Tottenham on Monday. If not, they'll just wait until next week.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Portugal Superliga (34 matches)
Benfica 58 (30) Braga 54 (29) Sporting 51 (28) Porto 51 (29) (in parentheses, games played)
This one still wide open. Could somebdoy fill us in on why the schedule is so unbalanced? It would be quite amazing if Trap can win a national championship in a third country.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Greece National League (after MD 30 of 34)
Panathinaikos 56 AEK 55 Olympiakos 53
Wow! Talk about an exciting finish!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Austrian Bundesliga (I don't know how many games altogether. 36?)
Austria 56 (28) Rapid 56 (28) SV Pasching 55 (29) AK Grazer 53 (29)
Here's another exciting finish, with a 4-way race. Who the hell are SV Pasching?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Belgium (after MD 30 of 34)
Brugge 74 Anderlecht 65
Brugge has practically clinched it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Turkey Super Lig (after MD 29 of 34)
Fenerbahce 68 (28) Galatasaray 64 (28) Trabzonspor 62 (28)
Fene with the edge, but still pretty tight up there...

Yes, 36 rounds.
Austria 56 (28)> Rapid 56 (28)> SV Pasching 55 (29)> AK Grazer 53 (29)>

They're the infamous "FC Superfund". Pasching is a suburb of Linz, as recently as 1996/97 they were still playing on the 5th level of the Austrian pyramid; they gained promotion to the Bundesliga in 2002. I don't like them upstarts.

Switzerland, Super League (36 games):>
FC Basel - 55 (28)> FC Thun 1898 - 49 (26)>
Still wide open, provided Thun win their two games in hand. Like in Pasching's> case it would be their first national title.
Yes, this is a swiss version of David and Goliath with Thun in the role of David. There is a Basel - Thun in 2 weeks, one day before Milan - Juve... Actually since Servette is retired from the league (bankruptcy) there are only 34 games in this championship.

Definitely.

Denmark (9 matches remaining)>
Brondby - 49> FCK - 45> FC Midtjylland - 41>
Probably looks like the big two will battle it out again for all the > marbles.
This one is tough for Brøndby. They had a 16 (!) point lead by the winter break, and already squandered 12 of them... This is not the first time they had big leads by the winter break, before totally crumbling in the spring season. At least it happened when Åge Hareide (now the Norwegian NT head coach) was coaching them some years ago.
FC København had a terrible autumn season, actually being closer to relegation than the top the first months.

Also, a very different cinderella story is happening in the "Challenge League" (level 2 in Switzerland). With 7 matches to go, FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein is goal difference ahead of Yverdon Sports in the chase for automatic promotion (1st place) and promotion play-off (2nd place). Chiasso in third are a further 6 points back.
Would this be the first time in Europe since whenever Swansea were up in 1st division (early 80s?) that a level 1 competition contained a team from outside their national FA?

The south neighbors can also do it, they prove it with Fiorentina ! Although they helped it to come back very quickly in Serie A... And it's also true that at the swiss level Servette (17 championship, 7 cups) is probably more prestigious than Fiorentina at the italian level.

I'm afraid the overwhelming favorites are going to have the upper hand in both matches: Basel and Milan.

AS Monaco seems to be fairly successful in France...

No. Derry City (from N Ireland) have played in the Rep Ireland League top level since 1987.
