You're being way too harsh. Inter was in total control in the first half, Milan couldn't get their passing game going and had Dida to thank for not conceding three goals. Not even Barca put Milan under this much pressure. Once Stam scored however their heads dropped. You can't blame Mancini, he has a horrible defence. If he doesn't address that over the summer then you can criticise him.

Just to add with Gattuso missing if Mancini plays 2 DMs in the second leg he is an idiot.

I don't think so. Ambrosini is a very good sostitute. I think is better then Gattuso!

Even if he wasn't missing it would be a ridiculous move. He needs to> start with either Van Der Meyde, who is fast compared to Maldini, or> just go all-out with Adriano, Vieri, and Martins from the start. If that was the case then why not use the combo in every match vs Milan?

Milan struggle when pressure is applied to Pirlo, because to be>effective he needs to settle on the ball and scan the pitch. The sides>that attack him (and not Kaka' as many people think) are the ones that>successfully disrupt Milan's game.
I don't think anyone disputes Pirlo's importance, that's why a back-up is a priority next season.
Yes, the defence sucks but Mancini goes about it in the wrong way,>nullifying the best aspects of his squad in order to add a little extra>protection in the form of a second DM. Given that his team had nothing>to lose I find it lame that he would approach the match so>conservatively. Even after the first goal he brought on Vieri for Cruz>instead of one of the DMs, which again is an overly-cautious move given>their situation.
After the first goal I agree but given how they bossed the game before I would say he got it right.
Needless to say if Mancini insists on the same midfield next week then>we can officially write him off as a poor tactician.
Milan are the ONLY team to have beaten Inter this season and Milan are not exactly an ordinary team. As I said you're being too harsh. He needs another season.

Bringing in Vieri for a DM and leaving Cruz on the pitch would have been extremely uneffective: he would have lost the filter in the middle of the pitch (Inter made 2 mistakes on static situations, but conceded almost nothing to Milan in normal play), in order to keep on the pitch 2 forwards that would have step on each other's feet; and Cruz was also evidently not on his day.
