[Continuing my Romanian theme tonight, here's a wire story saying that Romania have pulled their EURO 2012 bid because of lack of "government support". Countries with their hats in the ring are: Greece, Italy, Russia and Turkey as single bidders. Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine are their as dual-bidders. It would've been nice to hold it in Romania, but let's face it, the infrastructure just isn't there yet. Of the countries proposed, I would say Greece are a shoo-in]
BUCHAREST, April 5 (Reuters) - Romania has given up its bid to host the 2012 European championship because of a lack of financial support from the government, the Romanian Soccer Federation (FRF) said on Tuesday.
"FRF sent a letter to UEFA announcing it gave up bidding for the Euro 2012 finals," FRF spokesman Paul Zaharia told Reuters.
"The decision to drop the candidature was taken after the government said soccer is not among its first 10 priorities."
The announcement came two days after FRF president Mircea Sandu said he would not run for a new term later this year, following criticism from the media and supporters.
Greece, Italy, Russia and Turkey have already informed the European governing body that they are interested in making solo bids for the finals, while Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine have opted for joint bids.
