Are there any prominent non-Israeli Jewish >footballers?
I can't think of any, unless you consider former USMT starter Jeff Agoos "prominent". I'll bet that there are a couple more in MLS. Former Galaxy DF Dan Calichman is Jewish.
Why are there so few?
Perhaps because only 1 in 500 persons or so in the world are Jewish??? About 80% of those are in either the US (hardly a factory for prominent soccer players), or Israel.
Considering this, the odds of having many prominent Jewish soccer players are not so high.

This is neither here nor there, but Jeff Agoos is claimed by the Famous Jewish Athletes website I once visited.
And BTW, I once did a thread on the topic of Jewish footballers. Googlgeisyourfriend.

Dennis Wise may be Jewish.>
For reasons that may remain unbeknownst even to me, I laughed when I> read this.
I remember reading he was once and a friend of mine also with Wise as a surname is also Jewish. I think some Jews from eastern Europe renamed their surnames as close as possible to a 'traditional English' surname.

Interesting! There's Jeff Agoos of course. Hmm, I can't think of any others really.
In other threads on the topic on RSS, someone though Dennis Wise might be Jewish, but it's important not to imagine all Jewish-"sounding" names are necessarily borne by Jewish people.
(As an example, in US baseball, the very Jewish-sounding David Eckstein, shortstop of the Cardinals, is not Jewish even by antecedence)
I also seem to recall a thread some years ago, which I started, called "Jewish managers". I remember RSS Oldtimer Daniel Windler talking about the ones in Argentina, which I found below.
