Fastest goal in Carling Cup Final history.

Well, there's only been about three of them. Or do you mean "League Cup
final history"?

BBC radio's reporting the time of the goal as 45 seconds.

Nice to see Riise back to his best under Benitez - as with so many others,
Houllier was busy ruining him.

Interesting game so far - Liverpool are soaking up the pressure in the
manner you normally expect from Chelsea. Benitez is really involved,
altering minor things, harrassing his players to watch specific opponents
etc. Valencia fans will recognise that in-game tactical adaptability, while
by contrast it's the major weakness in Mourinho's skills.

ROFL, Mourinho sent off. No doubt he'll accuse Liverpool of buying the ref
also.

I'm listening to this on BBC. It sounds like a classic.

7 minutes to go in extra-time, 3-2 Chelsea.

John Arne Riise volleyed Liverpool ahead after 45 seconds but a Steven
Gerrard own goal sent the game into extra-time. Chelsea manager Jose
Mourinho was sent off for taunting Liverpool fans. Didier Drogba and
Mateja Kezman scored in extra-time to give Chelsea a 3-1 lead. Antonio
Nunez scored for Liverpool with six minutes remaining in extra-time
but Chelsea won the game 3-2.

Riise's goal was the quickest ever in a League Cup Final.

TEAMS:
CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB: Cech, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, Terry,
Gallas (Kezman 74), Jarosik (Gudjohnsen 45), Lampard, Makelele, Cole
(Johnson 81), Drogba, Duff.
LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB: Dudek, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Traore
(Biscan 67), Luis Garcia, Gerrard, Hamann, Riise, Kewell (Nunez 56),
Morientes (Baros 74).

That's harsh. The first half was terrible. The rest of the game was very
good.

You're wrong. It was the first half that was very good. The rest of the
game was terrible. :)

"> + Gerrard Saves Chelsea's Treble Dreams."

Since when is the Carling Cup included in "The Treble?"

Any collection of three trophies is a treble.

1999: Manchester United EPL/UCL/FA Cup "The Euro Treble"
2001: Liverpool UEFA Cup/FA Cup/League Cup "The Cup Treble" (Plus the Euro
Super Cup and Charity Shield afterwards)

2005: Chelsea EPL/UCL/League Cup "The League Treble" (If it actually
happens.)

There is also "The English Treble" -- EPL/FA Cup/League Cup.

And, if you want to get technical, a League One or Two club could, long
after hell has frozen over, win the Quintuple -- their league title/FA
Cup/Carling Cup/LDV Vans Trophy/UEFA Cup. Take away the UEFA Cup and you
still have the Football League Quad. :)

"a treble", yes, but not "The Treble". The Treble is (always was, always
will be), the league (now Premiership of course), FA Cup and League Cup.

Even ManU didn't win The Treble in 1999.

Always, but Chelsea's dreams of The Treble were ended by Newcastle.

The League-UCL-FA Cup "treble" has only been described as such since Man U
were in a position to win all three in 1999.

"a treble", yes, but not "The Treble". The Treble is (always was, always > will be), the league (now Premiership of course), FA Cup and League Cup.

This being the one and only Treble isn't realistic given that the main
contenders for the English Treble year in and year out have consistently
fielded Reserve sides in the League Cup until this year when Chelsea always
kept its big guns ready to come off the bench to rescue the match (and did
so in nearly every Carling match).

This coupled with the combined embarrassment of Man U being drawn at home by
Exeter City and Liverpool getting knocked out in the third round of the FA
Cup resulted in the first League Cup Semi-Finals that saw near complete
First Team line-ups from all of the remaining Big Four clubs.

It remains to be seen if next year Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and
Manchester United will revert back to an all-reserve line up or bring in the
big guns from the start of Carling Cup play. In any case, the usual lack of
respect that the Carling Cup gets makes Manchester United's feat, the
EPL/UCL/FA Cup Treble a far more legitimate contender for being the one,
true "The Treble".
