Cesc on the bench again. *sigh* I sort of understand the logic in that
normally when he comes in to a game fresh he makes an immediate impact,
but the Russians don't seem to get tired. And I think Hiddink will be
cagey enough to tell his players not to waste a lot of time chasing the
ball in midfield as the Barca duo make umpteen sideways passes.

E 200.oo for a ticket.
A Venezuelan friend of mine, living in Vienna, just phoned me to ask
if the price was reasonable. Someone offered him today a ticket in
Euro 200.oo.
No hint as to where in the stadium.
I dunno, I told him.
Would you like to watch 22 millionaires in shorts, kicking one another
and sometimes the ball, for Bs. 650.oo ?
If it were Venezuela playing, may be...
What do you think ?... or... should I say: Discuss ! ;-)

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

It's amazing how much less chatter there is on RSS when Italy isn't
involved.

Italy matches have more drama.

That's because Italy are probably the most polarising team in the sport.

I counted 3 penalties not given to Spain, at least on eof them looked
pretty certain. Torres was the one drawing the fouls.

He will score in the final, mark my words.

Highly intelligent and well-informed people disagree on every political
issue. Therefore, intelligence and knowledge are useless for
making decisions, because if any of that stuff helped, then all the
smart people would have the same opinions. So use your "gut instinct"
to make voting choices. That is exactly like being clueless, but with
the added advantage that you'll feel as if your random vote preserved
democracy.

Italy's tactics have been vindicated. They nearly beat this team!

It has to do much more with Russia being completely flat than with tactics.

Heh.

Obviously, as an American, I see it differently - but I'd put the
Yankees and Lakers up there.

I know you're convinced I hate Italy, but really the teams I'm sure-fire
to root against are Argentina, Portugal, and
Mexico-unless-they're-playing-a-European-team.

Argentina's got to be at least as polarizing as Italy. Just, with less
success lately. And there are plenty of folks out there who hate
England.

When you lose two games in a month to a team by a combined total of six
goals, it becomes a little disingenuous to suggest that the problem is
that you were having a bad day.

Not really for the first 60 minutes. It was ineffective taca-taca up to
Xavi's goal. After they scored, Russia had to open up. Italy would have
opened up and conceded more space if they had gone down a goal.

Spain clearly had the run of play most of the game, even before the goal.

And if that clear penalty had been given, we'd probably be talking about
the 15' ice-breaker rather than the 60' minute one.

Absolutely. But they looked quite ineffective.

They obviously had two bad days :-)

Hey, I'm not putting down Spain. They took care of business very
efficiently, and kudos to them.
