St Anton next Feb...

Le Dieu 22 April 2005 20:06:35
Is St Anton a suitable resort for families? I've heard it's a place loved by
hardened ski bums so I'm wondering if kids fairly confident on French reds
will cope with the skiing there?

Is there enough skiing (on-piste) to keep you occupied for a week?

Is there anything to do for non-skiing grandmas?

Any other info would be welcomed.

TIA

A. D.

If they're fairly confident, yes - although the reds can be quite
steep/narrow in places.... (and get very busy at times)
Is there enough skiing (on-piste) to keep you occupied for a week?>

More than enough if you include Lech, Zurs etc....
Is there anything to do for non-skiing grandmas?>

Health spa, walking tours, train to Innsbruck for shopping....
Any other info would be welcomed.

I still rate St Anton as the best all round resort I've been to... try to
get accommodation as close to the lifts as possible - near the Nasserienbahn
is often cheaper than the centre of town.

In short I'd recommend the resort to anyone, although maybe not a complete
beginner.

Feb = half term - are you going for the school holidays?

We were there at Christmas a couple of years ago and the queues were very
bad in places. Worse than the lift queues were the number of skiers on the
main 'arterial' routes coming down in the mid to late afternoon.

I would not go back there at semi peak time again and I hate to think what
New Year and Feb half term week are like.

Non skiing facilities were good though, so Grandma should be okay.

Clive

Having priced it up I think we'd take the kids out of school for a week let
Feb. It's almost half the cost. And with any luck half as crowded.

St Anton is not as busy in Feb as it is at New Year, in my experience.
It does get busy for sure, but it's not as bad as the big French
resorts. Going a week either side may make a difference, but you should
check when the Germans and Austrian holidays are; there's no point in
avoiding the UK holiday only to find that the resort is just as busy
because it's a German 1/2 term week.

St Anton is suitable for families, but not optimal.
Suggest to travel to Lech am Arlberg (same ski area) but more family
orientated. Or Zug am Arlberg (cheaper).
