 During my fusion Pre-op visit Monday, the Neurosurgeon was trying to explain
to my wife that the only thing left holding my lower spine together was this
interwoven network of muscles and ligaments - so I chimed in "oh you mean
tensegrity?" Yeh how on earth do you know about that? "Oh, I read a lot".

That's geek humor at its finest. FWIW, I'm pretty impressed that the
Neurosurgeon knew about tensegrity.

The best one I heard about this year: the fiber of a spider web is
composed of little chunks of push and pull woven together. It looks
more or less like the abstract tensegrity masts that Tom makes.
Tensegrity explains the phenomenal strength of the fiber. Then the
spider turns around and weaves those strands into a larger structure
that itself is tensegrity-like.

Mother nature is amazing.
