backspin exit part 2

Lyle Walsh 10 April 2005 00:21:52
So here is what coach says is the goal exit:

All sort of done together or in a tight sequence - Check out hard onto a
deeply bent knee, look over free shoulder and open too far with lean into
circle, then snap skating knee straight as you rotate your hips and
shoulders back in the direction counter to rotation of the spin coming out
perfectly square (think back power pull push) looking foreward and gliding
with speed straight back on the flat.

Whoosh the coordination is hard but when she does it while still spinning
pretty fast she exits with great speed.

I was watching couple ladies doing a backspin drill here
today. I'll try it sometime because it may have potential.
They start RFI 3 entry, and hook it with the toepick,
but then they quickly throw the spin with their arms, and
pull in tight ... and hope and pray it works. It did seem
to be working somewhat. It was well centered, and they
were getting 6 or more revs.

Last lesson for a while, on backspin coach had me spin slightly rotated to
the R (CCW spin) so I can see my R shoulder with arms crossed over R side of
chest. Made spin more upright and exit mentioned below easier. Had to
smile when she asked "you know what this is for?" Yeh, double jumps. Lets
hope.
