Golden Skaters Waltz - deciphering diagram

Had a go at this as a beginner and got a bit lost with it, today have found a
diagram but parts of it may as well be in Chinese :-). I would appreciate
input from someone more knowlegable about the dance on the translating the
tricker bits. I've listed the 16 steps shown, sorry it makes a boring post! If
I don't post a question mark it means I *think* I understand that step...

1. LOF
2. RIF
3. LOF
4. XF-ROF ?I think that means I crossed the right leg over to get into this
glide
5. XB-LIF ??? I can't recall what happened at the end of the last glide, is
this a slip, if so which one :-) ?
6. ROF-S-> ? Assume this means swing while gliding on the right
7. LOF
8. RIF-DC ? Maybe this was that tricky slip :-)

Wide step onto left foot

9. LIF-S->
10. LIF-S-> ?Could this be a typo on my diagram, the curve is drawn to the
left, should be RIF?
11. LOF
12. RIF-RC ?I think the short step describes a chasse with the left foot lifted?
13. LOF
14. Xroll LOF s-> ?Swinging cross roll I guess, don't really understand that
fully yet
15. LOF
16. RIF-DC ? same chasse as before?

Any help on this appreciated, I'm trying to remember where those slips should
go at the moment! The diagram I found was at
http://www.uq.net.au/~zzbarneg/sk_gldn_s8rs_waltz.htm

Hi Steve,

I think the pattern you have is using roller notation rather than ice
notation which is probably why it looks a bit confusing. The step list in
ice notation is:

1. LFO - 2 beats
2. RFI Progressive - 1 beat
3. LFO - 3 beats
4. XF RFO - 3 beats
5. XB LFI - 3 beats
6. RFO Sr - 6 beats - swing roll, free leg forward on beat 4
7. LFO - 3 beats
8. RFI Slide Chasse - 3 beats
9. Wide Step to LFI - 6 beats - Swing roll free leg forward on beat 4
10. RFI - 6 beats - Swing roll free leg forward on beat 4
11. LFO - 2 beats
12. RFI Chasse - 1 beat
13. LFO - 3 beats
14. CR RFO Sw - 6 beats - Cross roll free leg forward on beat 4
15. LFO - 3 beats
16. RFI Slide Chasse - 3 beats

Think of the opening steps as a quick run followed by a slow run then
cross in front, cross behind (this bit would probably make more sense if
you could get someone to demonstrate it! but basically, cross your right
foot in front of your left, slide your left foot backwards then slide it
back into place, still crossed behind your right foot). Swing to the
barrier (step 6), followed by a slide chasse. At the end of the slide you
step wide onto a LFI edge and do an inside swing towards the barrier
followed by another inside swing around the corner. The next step is a
normal chasse followed by a crossroll swing and another slip chasse (no
wide step this time) to bring you back to the start of the dance.

The whole dance is in Killian hold.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Please take note that the Cross in Front/Cross Roll on Step 6 is only>recommended for ADVANCED ice dancers!>
Except you'd pretty soon fail your test if you didn't do it!>

This is one of the vague areas for me. Could I trouble you or the panel to
describe what's supposed to be done at step 8, I'm not quite clear what a
slide/slip chasse is!
Yes, the Golden Skaters' Waltz *is* a nice dance. I have problems with> one area of it, though - the slide-chassé into widestep. I find it very> hard to get on to an inside edge for the LFI swing. That's the one where you do a slide chassé and then (in an ideal world)
hold for two beats, and then put your foot to one side and wide-step
into an inside edge swing roll.

Sadly the URL is giving a "not found" error here, shame!

Thanks Samantha for all this stuff, very useful! The pattern diagram you
posted was also better than the one I had.

I got to it. When the "site not found" comes up, go
up and delete the "-" signs from the URL in the address
bar, and click GO at the end of the bar. That will
activate Windows Media Player, which will buffer it
down. Once the file starts playing, pause WMP, and
click on File .. save media, and you will get it.
Not bad at all. Wonder if the lady is Samantha? Got
her off those clunky inlines :-)

Ah yes, got it working with that! Whoever, it looked very nice... Just wish I
could get my head around remembering those steps now, that's as much of a
challenge as trying to skate it for me... well that and the XB which seems more
than a little difficult currently :-)

What coach Vickie is teaching me is in the cross strokes,
cross rolls, point the move straight down the line of
travel, but then hook the roll action itself to the wall.
That gives much better balance in the placement of the
next step. I seem to be collecting films from several
sources now, and what I see they all have in common
is the need to hook those rolls more, so that the placement of the next
step, makes the next step easier
to do. Basically I'm saying to cross up the body, and
kick across the line of travel.
