The performance is being staged by the Imperial Ice Stars, the world s leading theatrical ice skating company, which has transformed the stage of the biggest theatre in Canada into an intimate skating rink.
The timeless story of Swan Lake, which is performed to the music of Tchaikovsky, tells the tale of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette, a woman transformed into a swan by an evil curse.
Odette is destined to remain a strange composite creature, until rescued by a man s undying love.
Only the evil Rothbart and his daughter, the black swan Odile, stand in her way of release from the curse.
The production showcases stunning Olympic-level skating in the intimacy of the theatre. Audiences will be wowed by a repertoire of breathtaking triple flips, awe-inspiring aerial gymnastics, double axles, death spirals, bielmanns, triple throw axles and spectacular high speed lifts, unique to the Ice Stars performance.
Most of the daring moves performed in the show would normally be performed in an arena, of approximately 60m x 60m.
The stage the performers skate on in the theatre is only 15m x 15m.
Olga Sharutenko, a recent contestant on the television show "Dancing On Ice", plays the role of Odette.
25-member cast
She leads a 25-member cast of Olympic, World, European and National Championship skaters, who between them have won more than 200 competition medals.
Swan Lake on Ice is an ideal opportunity for young performers to see how the disciplines and technical demands of world-class ice dancing can be taken to the highest possible artistic levels.
Swan Lake on Ice comes straight from a sold-out tour of South Africa as part of an 80-week world tour, which will also appear in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.S.
It will see the largest theatre venue in Canada, the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, transformed into an intimate skating arena with approximately 14 tonnes of ice using 14,000 litres of water.
That s enough to fill 154 baths or take 205 showers lasting 5 minutes.
Underneath, 15 km of pipe work is used in the refrigeration.
Laid end-to-end, those pipes would cover the distance of 27 CN Towers.
