A Beer

Stephen Doyle 25 May 2005 09:52:22
Any of you chaps heading south for the Lions tour and fancy a beer or two
while in Auckland?

Cheers
Stephen

I leave Gatwick on the second, arrive the morning of the 4th and go straight
to the ground at Rotorua. Looks like for an Auckland meet it would have to
be when they come back there at the start of July. If you fancy that then
let me know.

Cheers

The word is that the Lions are setting up a base camp (not sure where,
expect it is somewhere in or around Auckland) and will making flying
visits to each of their playing destinations.

The travelling supporters will have a fair amount of time to kill between
matches and have a great opportunity to see the country. I recommend
to anyone coming over to pick up the Lonely Planet New Zealand guide to
read on the plane. You'll find some interesting stuff to do in and around
some of the sleepier towns and in between destinations.

For instancee, you might stop at Mount Ruapehu for some skiing or
trout fishing at Lake Taupo during the four days you have to get from
Rotorua to New Plymouth, or spend a day at Queenstown between the Dunedin
and Invercargill games where you can white water raft, jet boat,
helicopter ride, sky dive and bungy all in one day for the princely sum of
GBP200.

It depends on the package you have. With the one I am on, everything is
arranged - food, drink (with meals), accommodation, transport, activities
(all that you mentioned), matches etc. The only thing you pay for is the
nights out. As far as I know, I am travelling around the country for all of
the games. I know that my friends on a different tour are Auckland based to
help with accommodation problems, and in one of the locations staying on a
P&O ferry.

I bought the Lonely Planet as I may well decide to stop for a bit
afterwards, and also because i like to know a little history before i go.

And don't bang your tent pegs in too far. And hold on to something solid
when a truck goes by. You think I'm joking.....

UD
Don't spend too long in Chch, I was in the SI for 2 weeks this month,
the coldest I have ever felt was in Chch, both days, on the way to
Milford and on the way home, the rest of the time was shirt sleeves.
(this will get Kippers going)
