Bobs' authentic All Blacks team. No bias to speak of
Bobs 1 May 2005 08:14:37
15. Mils Muliania 14. Doug Howlett 13. Conrad Smith 12. Tana Umaga (c) 11. Joe Rokocoko 10. Daniel Carter 9. Byron Keleher 8. Mose Tuiali'i 7. Richard McCaw (vc) 6. Jerome Kaino 5. Chris Jack 4. Whathisname Ryan 3. Carl Hayman 2. Anton Oliver 1. Tony Woodcock
26. Fairy Nonu 25. Nick Evans 24. Steve Devine 23. Aaron Mauger 22. Ali Williams 21. Xavier Rush 20. Josh Blackie 19. Jerry Collins 18. Keven Mealamu 17. Carl Hoeft 16. Greg Sommerville
No room for Meg who has said he's going after the Lions. Doesn't deserve a spot anyway. Mehrtens is a doormat. Braid is too small. Thorne is just rubbish.

Good picks. But a few maybes: McDonald maybe as Fullback with Mils as super sub. Meg as run on Half. Byron to sub on when Meg starts to get loose. Gibbes or Thorne as Lock/Blindside reserve.
Everything else looks good, especially Carter/Umaga/Smith 10/12/13.
You know bobby boy, if you hadn't put this clown in you could have passed that off as a serious attempt. He doesn't even rank in the top 5 anymore. I'd even have Nonu ahead of him for fucks sake..

Mauger in the reserves and no Marshall at all. LOL.
In Maugers case he could well be right. With the AB captain likely to be Umaga, Maugers fortunes depend on where they decise to play him.

Bar injury it's Umaga. And I think Henry's given a pretty clear indication that 'experience' will be a major factor in selection for the Lions. And we've only really got one experienced center, Umaga.

With the exception of Collins at 6, (and Mauger at 12, but that's >probably asking too much) that's about how I'd call it too.
I can't see the fascination with Aaron Mauger. I prefer second-fives who can tackle - it's this funny prejudice I've got. If I had $5 for everytime I've seen Mauger have an air-swing/miss an arm-grab tackle just in this S12 I'd be a very rich man.

Somewhere roughly equidistant between sunny Perth and dour Christchurch there are people with fond memories of Mauger's defensive effort in RWC03. Is it more than a fitness thing with him? He's looked very good in dominant company but would you take him into the trenches with you?
You've very nearly given Umaga enough credit, but let's just say he's a feared opponent wherever he lines up. Joost vdW was not a classic 9. Tim Horan was not a classic 12. But were they ever fantastic competitors.

Under your definition then, ALL the teams are losing since none is unbeaten. Clearly people use the word to distinguish cases from each other, not to lump all teams as loosers. IOW, your use of the word is absurd.

Maxwell pretty much admitted on TV3 news tonight that he has one foot on the plane. He didn't seem that interested in the Lions series. Either Henry and co change his mind or Williams is the only realistic option to partner Jack. Not ideal but I can't see a rookie being thrown to the Lions. Gibbes/Thorne would then be on the bench.

Which would explain why the Blues scrum held up well against the Bulls while the Crusaders' went backwards against the same opposition? No one says Afoa is a great scrummager so Woodcock must be doing something right! Somerville will be the reserve prop as he has shown some ability to play LH.

Woodcock also did a pretty good job against the French scrum last year. I'd be surprised if he is not the starting loosehead prop for the ABs at this point.

No, Neill, I don't exist. I'm a figment of your imagination. I'll give you credit though - other people have imaginary friends; you have imaginary antagonists. Novel, but probably speaks to one of your many deep-seated emotional problems.

I expect to see Carter, Smith, Umaga. Not that Mauger is at all deficient, but Umaga is very likely to be there which makes Smith all the more likely as well.

Amazing, another throwaway line, and you can't help responding with a three act play. Though it's more Ibsen than Shakespeare, that's for sure.

Buckaduck. They're all at it now.
Incidentally you're wrong - losing (in a series) is having lost more than you have won. Bit like points in a single game.
Under your definition then, ALL the teams are losing since none is > unbeaten. Clearly people use the word to distinguish cases from each > other, not to lump all teams as loosers. IOW, your use of the word is > absurd.
Uncle Bully, long known to be Rick's lapdog, has tried to re-invent words in the same way his much adored master has done in the past. Unfortunately with a brain the size of a pea, BullyBoy makes a very poor show of it. As expected.

Jeez do I have to spell out every fucking post?
When two reasonably equal players are competing for a spot, then the player in the most winningest team should get preference. I'm not writing out a fucking national constitution here, forgive me if I'm light on specifics but for fucks sake use a bit of imagination. Just as you pick Mils, I pick McDonald. Perhaps I should give no reason in fututre, would that make you happy?
Sheesh, you can tell there's not much going on when you nit pick this...
I mean really, what kind of logic is that? No All Blacks from a losing > team? What happens if the AB's lose? Could be a bit of a shitter. That's > one hell of a lack of job security. LOL.

No, why do you ask? >
Because thats effectively what you are proposing. A great player might well be swamped down in a bad team whereas an average player will look great because his team is giving him the breaks.

If both players' form is similar, but one is hampered by a poor team, it> stands to reason he is in fact the better player.>
The crusaders v Hurricanes game will be a perfect example of this. The likely domination / annihilation of the Hurricanes tight 5 will make it very difficult to make comparisons in just about any other position due to the advantage the one side gains.
