New Zealand rugby bosses are being thwarted in their attempts to clamp down on black market ticket sales for the Lions matches by fans selling them on the internet as free 'add-ons' to offers such as "a broken beach sandal".
Around 20,000 Lions fans are expected in New Zealand for the tour in June and July and only half of them will have official packages that include match tickets.
Fans out there are forbidden to re-sell the tickets so have come up with the trick of making them additions to items such as an empty drinks can and a box of matches - which they are advertising as costing up to around £700 with free tickets thrown in.
The New Zealand rugby Union are monitoring websites and have threatened to invalidate tickets being sold in breach of the terms and conditions but when asked what practical steps the NZRU could take to stop the practice, New Zealand Consumers' Institute chief executive David Russell admitted: "Bugger all."
