I understand that like S4C they will have highlights, but not the live stuff, which is in the hands of Sky. Incidentally, next season S4C will also have highlights of the HC, live coverage of the Celtic League, and highlights of the French League and Cup. Get your phrase books out, bachgen.

Well, what we really, really want is a British League.

A good point. I wouldn't want to be accused of trying to carve out our Celtic bretheren, would I? They can join in too, which would make it a British and Irish League. Of course it will never happen because there is no formula of representation or league structure that would satisy all parties. Ideally, you'd want about ten or twelve clubs playing home and away. What criteria would you use, and how would you carve it up? How would you arrange promotion and relegation? Something I consider to be a real failing of the Celtic League. Unfortunately, a British League is a non-starter.... until a coherent pyramid is constructed, with everyone taking their chances

The same way as any league sytem works? Geography wouldn't come into it. And there wont be an AB type whining about "jet lag" and the "water tasting funny" when a team comes last in that partular league/series.

A 4N league would never work with the HC. A 5 or 6N Euro League in an expanded HC format would work, but it could be 1. the death knell for the 6N or 2. resuscitate the 6N. Only people in Wales take it seriously these days.

This is ironic, yes?
I'm sure he is, but he raised a valid point, if the cream of Wales, Scotland Ireland and England are competing week in week out, the HC is a dead duck. There may as well be an end of season playoff agaist the french champs.
Of course if the HC is dead then you could squeeze in 16 teams and widen the comp and the support base. It would all become a bit meaningless if quota's had to be maintained from each country and still have promotion and relegation. It would have to be a closed shop. I would support this in principal but wouldn't wan't to see a shotgun wedding of english clubs, London Lags? Midlands Mob? No Thanks!
I don't think it would kill the 6N but it would probaly kill off or at least slow down the development of Italian rugby, space would have to be found in some lower tier comp along with the leftovers from the ZP etc.

Mike
Somehow I think we are headed to an expanded Euro League HC thingy with the 6N played at seasons end in better weather. It may take a decade or longer but it is going that way. This years 6N was a shot in the arm but you cannot deny that the HC has caught the public's [and sponsors] imagination. That includes the all-ZP English colisions like Leicester vs. Wasps. Now there was a pair of games.
