BTW: The Hurricane's scrum *has* improved.
IMO the Canes were pretty ordinary in others aspects though ... good try by Nonu and some nice breaks but too much kicking and errors to be in this game. Highlanders set peices were solid ... will be good to benchmark the lineout against the Tahs next week and then the scrum against the Crusaders the following week
I knew if I tipped the canes they would lose ... voodoo works ya see All the Highlanders gotta do now is beat the Tahs with a bonus point and its looking good for the semis.
I enjoyed watching the game in a pub with a bunch of North Islanders (and a room full of bemused Western Australians who wondered what all the shouting was about but as comments showed, are coming to terms with rugby union in Western Australia and, thanks mainly to much increased TV news coverage of Mitchell and various high-profile signing for Western Force, showed a surprising awareness that WA will be part of an international rugby competition).
Not that high a standard of rugby, too many knock ons, missed passes and turnovers. The Highlanders were dominant early got away to an early lead with a couple of tries. The Hurricanes did not look capable of pinning them back, although once Maybelline Nonu slipped through some of the girliest tackling since Jonah Lomu played competition rugby, the chance was certainly there for them -- but they were their own worst enemies, giving away countless chances with silly errors and penalties.

They have had Mike Cron (the Scrum Doctor) in town twice now. Once before the Waratahs game and again last week. There was a noticeable improvement for the Tahs game and I can guarantee that if Cron hadn't been there to help again last week it could have been a lot worse than it was. He is apparently a huge asset to any scrum that he coaches. Luckily he is an NZ rugby coach and can spread his knowledge around.
