Three Blues cited over ruck

Kip 20 March 2005 11:37:03
Well Williams is a thug with a history so he's gone for at least a
couple of games. But Gibson & Tuitupou? - maybe a ban might teach them a
lesson but it's probably not desearved.

THREE Auckland Blues players are to appear before a judiciary committee
over a rucking incident in their 19-41 loss to the Canterbury Crusaders,
officials said today.

The three players cited during the bitter encounter, which was seen as a
virtual All Black trial, were lock Ali Williams, halfback Dave Gibson
and second five-eighth Sam Tuitupou, they said.

Williams was given a red card by referee Paddy O'Brien for rucking the
head of Crusaders captain Richie McCaw in the Super 12 match on Saturday
night.

The other two players were named by the independent citing commissioner
for the same incident, the New Zealand Rugby Union said.

The hearing woill be held at the rugby union headquarters in Wellington
on Monday.

McCaw was frequently the target of Blues players who appeared frustrated
as the Crusaders piled on 34 unanswered points in the first half.

Blues coach Peter Sloane acknowledged his team lacked discipline in the
match and described them as being "shell-shocked" at being given a
hiding in just about every facet of the game.

I have aa feeling it was Tuitupo that stomped all over Maugers face
earlier on, but I could be mistaken.

I must admit I can't believe we've heard nothing more about how Mauger
got his facial cut. I'm annoyed I didn't tape the game because the
incident was very clear, but something else interesting happened
immediately afterwards and the ruck was never replayed on TV.

If someone taped it, have a look at the ruck Mauger got injured in
about half way thru the second half and let us know how whe got it.

Nope. I keep thinking there's nothing in it , because surely there
would have been more reaction by now
