I know it is very early to ask, but what is the gossip: does this mean Pretorius looks to be on the way back to the Springbok team, and would he lift Jaco vd Westhuizen?

Apologies for replying to my own post, but PlanetRugby has this to say: "... If Bok coach Jake White is still looking for a back-up for Jaco van der Westhuyzen, then he has found him. I will go one further. On Saturday's form Pretorius should be the No.1 choice and Van der Westhuyzen could be back-up to the Cats star...." http://www.planet-rugby.com/Tournaments/Super_12/story_41846.shtml

Pretorius had a great game and must be working his way towards first choice should these performances continue. He had a great Currie Cup also so his form is continuing from last season. It's funny how the Cats win is seen as a shock really, the Lions and Cheetahs both have a great team spirit and even thought they don't have so many big names, they played some great rugby last year.

Pretorius had a horrible year last season. He came into it after injury and nothing went right. Kept on being injured again, he was not playing in a team that could give him space and nothing worked out.
Hopefully he is back to the good times. That should see him as the Bok no 10.
He is a good running no 10 and when he is on form, a good kicker with a 80% success rate to post.

Definitely no.1 when on form and he can do it at test level. I well remember the Dickinson travesty test in NZ a couple of seasons back. After the Conradie/Pretorius performance that day, I thought the Boks had their halves sorted for the forseeable future.
Amazing how far the ball flies up there at Ellis Park - it quite changes the nature of the game.
What a pain the Bulls must be for their supporters, the way they refuse to pick up the pace when they've done the heavy work and the cracks start to appear. The number of opportunities they declined for quick ball or pick&go was maddening.
Grobelaar looks a good opensider. Not too small is he Ferdi? The Bulls could have used someone to match him.
Williams/Erasmus/Venter can take a tentative bow. Some smarts there it would seem.
Go Cats, but either give Julies some sprint training or try de Waal at 12.

The Lions finished well last year and Pretorius was the reason. They ran the Bulls close in the semi and despite the lack of 'big' names, they have obviously carried the confidence through to the Super 12 (and FS as well of course). Hopefully they can keep it up as I've tipped them over the Hurricanes on Saturday :o)
