| Weather in Wellington Apteryx 12:58:03 |
| | The weather in Wellington at the moment (2.30pm, the traditional time for test kick-offs) is fine with brilliant blue skies, no wind, a bit of a wintry nip in the air if you are in the shade, but with the sun warm enough to make you forget that if you can get out in it. The kind of day that makes you feel good to be alive, and even better to own a convertible. Ideal conditions for attractive rugby in a match between the best two sides in the world.
Unfortunately, the weather for kick-off time (7.35pm) is forecast to be bitterly cold southerly gale-force winds with heavy rain, and the possibility of snow on the surrounding hills. Conditions similar in fact to those in which the Irish test was played. Conditions which no sensible person would go out in, let alone try to play sport in.
But at least Rupert Murdoch is happy.

As usual Bok management couldn't help but do something whack. Joe van Niekerk is picked ahead of the two standout Super 14 nr. 8's Spies and Kankowski - the latter two not even featuring on the bench! Looks like a lineout ploy to me. Could be that Kankowski needs another week off after his babg on the head? Maybe they're looking at the weather forecast and see it being a pretty tight game.
Cheers, aMtt

SANZAR announces D-day for Pumas by Rugby365
Updated: July 4, 2008
Argentina are one step closer to being included in a major international tournament, after recent constructive talks between the Argentina Rugby Union (UAR) and SANZAR.
SANZAR (South African, New Zealand and Australian Rugby) officials have met in Wellington over the past two days with representatives from the Union Argentina de Rugby (UAR), as well as Rugby Canada and United States of America (USA) Rugby to discuss expansion options for SANZAR's competitions.
SANZAR and SA Rugby chairman Mpumelelo Tshume, SANZAR CEO and SA Rugby managing director Jonathan Stones, New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) CEO Steve Tew and Australian Rugby Union (ARU) deputy CEO Matt Carroll held talks with UAR Council Member Ricardo Garcia Fernandez and fellow UAR representative Agustin Pichot.
Rugby Canada Chairman Rick Bourne and CEO Graham Brown were the Canadian representatives present, whilst USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville took part on behalf of North America's rugby interests.
SANZAR managing director, Jonathan Stones, said the discussions had been 'constructive, open and frank'.
"It was very much an information-sharing discussion with all parties. We gave an update on the state of SANZAR rugby at both Super 14 and Tri-Nations level and, in turn, each country presented their capabilities and vision for the future," Stones said.
SANZAR also has meetings scheduled with officials from Japan in Hong Kong later this month, and with the Pacific Island nations of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.
Mr Stones said information from the meetings would be discussed at the next SANZAR workshop in Perth, Australia, on July 15-17. Potential scenarios for SANZAR's future will be developed in more depth at the meeting.
SANZAR then aims to have a range of proposals to present to broadcasters by no later than June 2009.

| | Modest and sensible comments by new Springbok coach Peter de Villiers and vice captain Victor Matfield on RugbyHeaven:
De Villiers: "We didn't play New Zealand in the world cup so we have to beat them to call ourselves proper world champions. That will be a great motivation for them."
Matfield: "It's probably tougher coming here and getting a win against New Zealand than winning a world cup."
