In the 2nd half, Wulf fielded a kick and ran to toward the centre of the pitch and delivered a PERFECT longish pass to Mils. That is, Mils didn't have to slow half a step, he hit it at speed. The play then looked infinitely more attacking than most others in the game. I then watched passes to see what effect they had. Most other passes were slightly backward causing the player to slow. That's why so many AB passes are forward. HTH HAND

| | Watching bits of the Tonga/Fiji game on the weekend, both teams perfomed their hakas, and the Tongans have even incorpoirated a throat slitting gesture into theirs. Strangely there was no inquiry into how unfair it was or how many kids lives were jeopardised by the insanely violent gesture. One has to wonder what happened to the anti-haka crowd on this occassion? Why do they only care when it NZ that's doing it?

One or the other. Percy will freeze - Dunedin will be brass monkey cold next weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries the old Alan Hewson trick of turning out in panty hose.
Steyn's a bit handy though. That drop kick was spectacular. And he looks like a lad who enjoys the game as well - all too rare these days. Being built like a large baked clay outhouse doesn't hurt either.
I can't see what Janjies did wrong though - looked confident and did everything you'd expect a fullback to do yet he got slated by the SA press. Is it cos he is black?
The back row looks better balanced. Van Niekek was no great shakes when he was the next big thing, let alone now. He was always a Skinstadt-lite which would be no mean feat if Skinstad wasn't always such a Zinzan-lite. Spies looks the real deal.
You guys better hope Matfield, Smit and James are fast learners though - they looked absolutely out of their depth with the ELVs, let alone the step up in class from whatever moribund divisions they were playing in oop north to 3N test rugby.

It's not news cos you heard it first, ages ago.
Goode has completed 10 seasons at Leicester and he's still only 28.
I missed the one about Lassucq becoming skills coach though. That boy was a very fine scrummy. Good luck to them.

The relevant info is in the second paragraph. This is genuine Paddy"s porkys!
“The IRB Match Official Selection Committee waited until the outcome of SANZAR’s discussions as to whether the Tri Nations would be played under the ELVs before selecting the panel of officials for the Tournament,” explained IRB Referee Manager Paddy O’Brien.
“As the matches will be played under the ELVs as approved by IRB Council at its meeting in May, it was important that we selected match officials with relevant experience of the ELVs that will apply, hence the appointment of an all southern hemisphere panel,” added O’Brien.
How long has Waynker been part of the "southern hemisphere panel"? Where is his "relevant experience of the ELVs"? Me smells a bumboy!

There are some pearlers in there:
"We just have to become illegal sometimes too," de Villiers said.
"There is a quite positiveness that we lost it rather than they won it."
"We were more disciplined there in playing the new laws rather than playing the situation under the referee very good."
Can one of you Boneheads do a translation on the last one? I'm just getting clicking noises.

I'm surprised that a few AB fans are defending Thorn. While I'm surprised he did it (having no real history of thuggery) he deserved a ban because it was 1) extremely dangerous 2) premeditated. 3) the player did not have the ball Im all for its a mans game etc, play hard but I dont condone this behaviour. Oh no! Wayne Barnes returns to haunt ABs By GREG FORD - Sunday Star Times | Sunday, 06 July 2008
BARNES IS BACK: English referee Wayne Barnes will come face-to-face with the All Blacks next month.
Brace yourself New Zealand. The country's most hated man, Englishman Wayne Barnes, is poised to be thrust back into our lives when he comes face-to-face with the All Blacks next month.
Barnes will police the touchline during the All Blacks' Tri Nations clash with South Africa in Cape Town nine months after the whistle-blower incensed Kiwis after missing a blatant forward pass during the All Blacks' quarterfinal loss to France in the Rugby World Cup.
The sinbinning of Luke McAlister and a catalogue of other errors in Cardiff made the subsequent fallout all the more vitriolic. The All Blacks fuelled the enmity as recently as a fortnight ago when lock Ali Williams slammed Barnes' performance and the New Zealand Rugby Union, albeit through an independent tournament review, also pointed the finger at Barnes.
A reunion between the former lawyer and All Blacks was inevitable. But given the wounds from last year are still raw some are surprised it has come so soon.
Not so Barnes' boss and staunchest supporter, Southlander Paddy O'Brien, who appointed his protege to the fixture.
O'Brien went on the attack on Saturday when the wisdom of his decision - given recent history between the parties - was questioned.
"There is no history between the All Blacks and Wayne Barnes," he claimed.
When offered the chance to revise this answer he declined and had a pointed message to any All Blacks fans who might be upset with his decision.
"I don't give a toss, to be honest, and Wayne finds all the fuss [in New Zealand] quite amusing, I think," he said.
"New Zealand doesn't rule world rugby. New Zealanders have to remember that."
But given his testy response it's obvious the appointment will be controversial and it's hard to imagine the All Blacks being entirely happy.
But O'Brien said there was no chance the appointment would be revisited. "Wayne is in South Africa to referee a match the week before so it would be silly of us not to have him involved," he said.
"There is no significance in the fact it will happen on neutral ground in South Africa. Imagine if teams could overturn what referee they had each week. The whole process would turn into a shambles. So this decision will stand, there's no two ways about it."
Aussie Stuart Dickinson will ref the match. Dickinson was in charge of last night's match in Wellington.

Cool, I must say the AB's were the better team on Saturday, which was impressive without Richie. Maybe not having our captain next game will work for us this time I reckon it will. Du Plessis looked more at ease with the pace, style and laws than Smit. He's a good player.

Strange co-incidence that Smit, also Capt, cops a similar tackle. Boks performance falls off.

| Planet Rugby in another galaxy Rick Boyd 01:49:34 |
| | I love the thinly-veiled Japie web site "Planet Rugby" that pretends to be about British rugby.
Reading the article on the first tri-nations game, I wondered if I had dreamt it all and the Springboks had in fact won.
"All Blacks weather South African storm" says the front page teaser, as though the All Blacks had squeaked home against a mighty South African tornado of fury.
Apparently the All Blacks fell over the line after "coming off the ropes after the Boks had silenced the sodden crowd with a fine first-half performance" -- the All Blacks were practically out on their feet it seems. And very lucky to win, by the sound of it.
"Credit must go to the Boks - they matched the All Blacks in every asset of play."
"They stood toe-to-toe in defence and found more holes in attack than the Irish and English had managed in three games. "
Which is odd because I don't recall them making a single break worth the name all night, apart a single Habana trademark opportunistic effort down the sideline. Not to mention scoring fewer tries as our dear friend Didds has already pointed out.
Meanwhile, back on earth...
