......the expectation from the audience that ECW was being brought back only served to be a monumental letdown.
By comparison, if someone were to resurrect The Beatles and say: "You know what, we want to make them more globally accepted, so we're going to have a white guy, an Asian female, a Hispanic Bisexual and an African-American with a Scottish accent."
In the land of WWE that actually makes sense.
But no matter how you look at it, it's just not the Beatles.

Fans crap all over the woman's "match"...Shocker! WWE SmackDown Taping Results *Spoilers* 06/24/2008 by Ryan Gray WWE taped this Friday's edition of SmackDown from the Toyota Center Paul for text-messaging the following results. If you are attending a WWE event in the near future and would be interested in assisting us with text updates or a live report following the show, please email me. Dark Match: * Tommy Dreamer b. Kevin Thorn after hitting a DDT. WWE SmackDown: (Airing This Friday) * Mick Foley makes his way out to ringside. So far, no sign of Jim Ross. * SmackDown opens with Vickie Guerrero nearly in tears talking about Vince McMahon's "accident." She receives a lot of heat and wishes Vince well. She says she hopes he's not in a wheelchair. She announces new SmackDown color commentator, Jim Ross. He makes his way out to ringside as the crowd explodes! BUSINESS IS ABOUT TO PICK UP, BAH GAWD!!!
* Triple H comes out to cut a promo. He gets a huge pop. Triple H welcomes Jim Ross to SmackDown by saying he is the best and he's glad he came with him. He the talks about Night of Champions. Edge comes out to interrupt him. He tells Triple H that they can get both get along. Hunter disagrees by saying that both have too big of egos and that Edge won't have the World Championship after Sunday's Night of Champions pay-per-view. Edge combats by saying this is his house and that Triple H needs to respect him. Batista then comes out. Hunter then pushes Edge and Batista hits him. They both hold the title up while Edge is on the ground. I could actually enjoy that.
* Rey Mysterio's last appearance on SmackDown is announced for tonight. Whoopie.
* Big Show & Kane b. MVP & Mark Henry The match was back and forth throughout. MVP tagged himself in and got in trouble with Kane. He tried to leave but Mark Henry threw him back in. Kane pins him for the win. Sweet.
* Finlay & Hornswoggle b. Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins Huge pop for Finlay & Hornswoggle. The match was pretty much one sided throughout and Finlay & Hornswoggle take the win. The Miz & John Morrison stand on the entrance ramp with their belts. Meh.
* Edge b. Matt Hardy I'm told this was a pretty decent match throughout. Lots of holds and counter holds. Edge wins with a spear after several near falls. Lots of crowd heat on Edge. One last kick to Matt's backside on his way out.
* Maryse, Victoria, & Natalya b. Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, & Cherry The match was back and forth throughout. The crowd could have cared less. After all the divas get involved Maryse gets the roll up pin on Cherry for the win! Hey umm, does JR know how to pronounce Maryse?
* It is announced that Kennedy won't be on SmackDown until next week. * Vladimir Kozlov b. Domino Real quick match. Heat on both Superstars. Meh.
* Rey Mysterio comes out wearing street clothes and his mask. He explains to the fans that he has been drafted to Monday Night Raw and he hopes everyone will tune in weekly to watch him. He goes on to say hopefully he can fulfill more of his dreams. Batista then comes out and says he will back Rey wherever he goes. Awwww...
* Batista vs. Umaga Umaga has control early on. The match moves slowly. Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins come running out while Edge grabs his belt. La Familia beat Umaga. Why? Umaga face turn?
Triple H comes out and helps Batista clean house. Pedigree and Batista Bomb on Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins. Ah, the thrill of being a JTTS...
Batista grabs the mic and said at first he was upset about the Draft. Triple H then told him he was going to good on Raw. SmackDown goes off the air. Awww...

Hogan Family Saga Not A Pretty Sight
By Mike Mooneyham June 1, 2008
It's a good thing Hulk Hogan's reality show is no longer on the air. They'd most likely have to change the title from "Hogan Knows Best" to something along the lines of "Hogan Doesn't Have A Clue."
Unlike the world of pro wrestling, where characters and storylines are in the relatively safe hands of fantasy writers, Terry Bollea, aka the Hulkster, has found his life of late exposed for the world to see. And it's not very pretty.
Also unlike the world of pro wrestling, Hogan is finding it increasingly difficult to spin the situation and manipulate the media. He's been a master at that aspect his entire wrestling career, but even Hogan hasn't been able to play the press this time around.
The latest sordid chapter in the ongoing Hogan family saga, of which there have been many, is the release of the Nick Hogan prison tapes. Hogan's 17-year-old son recently was sentenced to eight months in jail after pleading no contest to reckless driving stemming from an incident last August. The passenger in his car, John Graziano, was left with a much harsher sentence - confined to a lifetime of medical care with massive brain damage and in a permanent vegetative state.
Authorities say Hogan was street racing his father's modified 1998 Toyota Supra when he struck a curb, spun in traffic and slammed into a palm tree near downtown Clearwater, Fla. Hogan, who was not seriously hurt, had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.
Graziano, a 22-year-old former U.S. Marine who already had served two tours of duty in Iraq, made the mistake of getting in a car with a teenager who had spent his free time compiling an ugly driving record - four speeding tickets racked up in the past year alone - while snubbing his nose at authority. About two weeks before the accident, he was nabbed for driving 82 mph in a 45 mph construction zone and cited for speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
Young Hogan had even boasted about talking his way out of tickets in an interview he gave to a car magazine.
"Speeding to Nick was a badge of honor," Graziano's mother, Debbie, said during a recent court hearing.
Hulk Hogan, though, has consistently denied suggestions that his beleaguered son's bad driving record and affinity for racing may have been to blame for the crash. Even mom Linda Hogan encouraged her young son's street racing.
"Oh, I love it. I love it," she once said. "The rush, the speed on the road, stereo-blasting, heart-pounding, racing in between all the cars, dodging the cops. It's awesome."
His mom even bought him a car to work on when he was just 14. The license plate was COEHSP. "Capable of eluding high-speed pursuit," the youth told a reporter at the time.
"Nick is not the person that he's been asked to be portrayed on TV. & Nick is a good person," argued Hulk Hogan, who allegedly bought alcohol that his son allegedly drank on the day of the crash. " He is kind, he is gentle, he's compassionate, and he doesn't have a bad bone in his body. And people fail to realize that Nick is still a 17-year- old child."
Yet young Nick, who should have been the focus of better parenting skills, still got the green light to get behind the wheels of his fancy car.
It's the constant attention, adulation and power that drives this family. It's also what has caused its downfall.
The recent capturing of jailhouse conversations between Nick Hogan and his family has again put the Hogans in the familiar spotlight. While there's no doubt they were caught off guard by the release of the tapes to the media, the sentiments expressed during these conversations are sadly revealing.
A weeping Nick Hogan tells his parents that he is "really freaking out" behind bars and begs them to ask the judge to put him under "house arrest." Complaining about the accommodations during his daily phone visits with his family,, Nick says, "It's much worse than you could ever imagine. This is like a state prison. I'm all by myself." "Don't cry, baby," his mom tells him.
Hogan can be heard telling his dad that he wants to turn up for a court hearing in his jail jumpsuit "for the sympathetic factor."
That conversation is part of 26 hours of jailhouse tape released by the Pinellas (Fla.) County Sheriff's Department. Jailhouse phone conversations are typically recorded, except in the case of phone conversations between an attorney and his client, which are viewed as privileged. Other conversations can be considered part of the public record and become available to the media or any other person who may request them. Inmates repeatedly are warned that their calls may be recorded.
In another recorded conversation which was leaked, Linda, Hulk's soon- to-be-ex, is critical of John Graziano's mother, claiming her grief is greater than that of the victim's family.
"(Debbie) has no other recourse other than to be nasty and vindictive now, because if she really knew you, if she really knew the relationship between you, John and (another friend), she'd be sad right now. She wouldn't be mad. You know, she'd be devastated like I am. She's not sad; she's just acting angry, like she wants some money. John never meant anything to her or Ed. It's sad because I really appreciated you kids, and I miss John. I miss you, too. She's not suffering. I am. I have the loss."
A whining Nick Hogan tells his parents in the tapes that "I want to breathe fresh air." He says, "I'd do anything to get out of this room."
Instead of using the incarceration as a wake-up call, the Hogans seem more concerned about coming up with a new way to cash in on the misfortune.
At one point, Nick Hogan even asks his father to hook him up with a new reality show "where I can make the most money."
"We can call it 'the new Nick,'" Hulk responds, advising his son to use his jail time to come up with a name for a new money-making entertainment vehicle. "Don't freak out," he tells him, suggesting that the possible producers of the show be himself, Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey.
"You know, if I'm producing the show, I won't screw you," Hogan assures his jailed son. "You know that. I'll make you an owner. You'll own the show. So let me get to working on that with Eric tonight. He's here, too. We can get that pulled off, too."
The narcissistic family even goes so far as to blame the semi- conscious victim. At one point, Hulk says, "For some reason God laid some heavy s--- on (Graziano)." Nick calls Graziano, described in the court hearing as his best friend, a "negative person."
The family of John Graziano has rightfully expressed outrage over the conversations. Incensed over what they say is a clear lack of remorse on the part of the Hogan family, the parents have condemned the "outrageous conduct" exhibited by the Hogans during the jail conversations. The Grazianos also have responded to the Linda Hogan comment by stating, "They don't care a bit about my son, all they are doing is planning a party."
A statement released by the Grazianos through their lawyer said the jailhouse conversations show that the Hogan family's contrite and subdued statements to the court at the sentencing hearing were insincere.
"These tapes clearly show what the Bolleas said in court was calculated to give the court the impression that Nick deserved a break. It was a true Academy Award performance. They (the Hogan family) spoke of their love for John and they expressed how sorry they were, but their true feelings have now been revealed in the tapes."
"These people, the Bolleas (Hogans), are the biggest phonies and two- faced individuals that I've ever seen," the statement quotes Debra Graziano as saying. The Grazianos also have blasted the Hogans for trying to cash in on their grief.
"Nick Bollea and Terry Bollea are already planning a new reality show. Cameras are set to film Nick Bollea as he is released from jail and while he serves his probation."
"The reason he (Nick) was put in jail is to think about what he did to my son. (But) that's the last thought on his mind," says Ed Graziano.
The Graziano family has filed a civil suit against Terry and Linda Bollea (Hulk and Linda Hogan), alleging they are liable for their son's actions. "I'm not seeking revenge, only justice," says Debbie Graziano.
"John was everything I hoped and dreamed he could be," says John Graziano. "He was healthy, safe and strong, and a hero. A United States Marine and a hero to his county ... However, on Aug. 26, 2007, everything changed because of the senseless acts of recklessness by Nick Bollea ... Not only did he destroy my son's life, but also those that John loved. What al-Qaida couldn't do to my son, Bollea did in minutes."
The self-absorbed Hogan family's fascination with fame - despite the consequences - remains boundless. VH1 announced last week that wannabe- pop star Brooke Hogan's "Brooke Knows Best" spin-off will premiere on July 13. "No longer an innocent teenager, Brooke learns what growing up is really about," according to a network press release. "For the first time, Brooke is learning how to deal with the ins and outs of daily life, new relationships, of her family's recent struggles, as well as managing her career and finances without Mom and Dad."
Despite her celebrity lineage and "Hogan Knows Best" exposure, Brooke has not evolved into the next pop princess. Her music career thus far has been a flop. WWE even created its own character, Jillian Hall, to mock her singing, a less-than-subtle sign from Vince McMahon to Hulk Hogan that his value to the company isn't what it once was.
Carrying on what seems to be a family tradition for the bleached-blond brood, the 20-year-old Brooke was involved in an automobile accident of her own last Sunday. Fortunately this one wasn't her fault, as the driver of a 1997 Toyota lost control, hit her 2008 Mercedes head-on and pushed it into a concrete wall on Florida's Bayside Bridge. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, and no injuries were reported.
- Yet another star from the golden Mid-Atlantic era passed away last week.
Rudy Kay, who was a favorite in the Carolinas during the '60s and early '70s, died Sunday of septicemia at the age of 65 in his hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Kay, whose real name was Jean-Louis Cormier, was part of a famous Canadian wrestling family that included brothers Yvon, Leonce, Romeo and Malcolm. Rudy was one of 13 children in the family and the third of five to enter the wrestling business.
The brothers became performers under various aliases: Jean-Louis as Rudy Kay and Rudy Martin; Yvon as The Beast; Leonce as Leo Burke and Tommy Martin; Romeo as Bobby Kay, Tommy Martin and Bobby Burke; and Malcolm as referee Mel Turnbow. Two of the brothers joined Rudy in the Carolinas in the early '70s as Bobby and Terry Kay. Yvon also worked for Crockett Promotions as The Beast. Kay, who was given his ring name by a booker who thought he resembled an old-time grappler by the name of Rudy Kay, also was a successful promoter in Canada's Maritime provinces during the '70s. Emile Dupre, a veteran wrestler and promoter on the Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling circuit, said the Cormiers "were to New Brunswick what the Hart family was to Calgary."
- While making a recent appearance on the Opie and Anthony radio show, John Cena was asked by a caller what he does to relax when he's stressed out. The WWE star said he'll often tip back some Coors Lights at a local bar, work on his muscle cars or visit "an establishment of ill repute." Asked by the hosts if he was serious, he said he was.

J.R.’s Ramblings and Sneak Peek at the New Website
May 28, 2008
The first three people I saw when I walked down the hall in the locker room area of the Pepsi Arena Monday afternoon were three Mid South Wrestling alumni, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams, Ted DiBiase, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan, having a friendly conversation. In their prime, each of these men brought something different, but special to the table. Doc was a natural, as far as the physicality goes in the wrestling business, and started working for Bill Watts between Doc’s junior and senior year in college at Oklahoma. I saw Doc’s college wrestling coach, Stan Able, Tuesday afternoon following our friend Jack Mildren’s funeral services and Stan said Doc, a former 4 time All American heavyweight at OU was the most loyal athleteS Stan ever coached and at times the most frightening.
Duggan was a brawler along the lines of Bruiser Brody and Mick Foley on their best days, and the former SMU Mustang football player is a former state high school champion wrestler from Glens Falls, N.Y. After the Junkyard Dog abruptly left Mid South Wrestling for the greener pastures of the WWE, Duggan carried the ball for Watts and replaced JYD as the territory’s top hero.
Duggan and Doc, both legit bad asses, have been blessed to have each beaten cancer.
DiBiase, whose 241 page autobiography is one that I highly suggest that you read, was arguably the most well rounded performer of the aforementioned trio and Teddy’s Million Dollar Man persona was one of the WWE’s best and most viable personas.
Nonetheless, it was great seeing three of Mid South Wrestling’s most distinguished alum’s having a great visit on Monday in Denver, which was an especially eventful day as it was also the Raw debut of Ted’s son, Ted DiBiase (no Junior). Only time will tell how well young Ted will do but he is another third generation athlete that certainly has an opportunity and the potential to become a top hand over time. I have not seen enough of Ted’s work to know how ready young Ted is or isn’t as it relates to prime time but we will apparently all see for ourselves sooner than later.
The $1M promotion that the WWE is going to start soon on Monday Night Raw is garnering a healthy amount of reaction from fans and Internet types. It appears to be similar to many ratings promotions that are done by TV networks, especially in May and November, and also by radio stations, to enhance viewership. Many critics are blasting the on air promotion before it even starts or before the details are known, but that isn’t unusual these days.
It will be a big night in San Antonio on June 23 as the, apparent, Annual WWE Draft will be held during a 3 hour Monday Night Raw. I am interested in how the order of the draft will be determined and the process that will be utilized to make the selections. I read where the TV announcers are also eligible for the draft, which is perplexing. I can’t speak for the King, but I am personally not interested in leaving Monday Night Raw. I hope that I didn’t just jinx myself. Working regularly on another broadcast would feel strange at this stage of my game.
J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant is looking forward to having many of the WWE Superstars in town for Raw in OKC on June 30 as several have indicated that they will likely check out our newest eatery after Raw. The new restaurant, which will open 3-4 days in advance of the OKC Raw (hopefully), is located at the 19th Street exit off I-35 (west side of the interstate) in Moore, Oklahoma. We plan on staying open late (2 a.m.?) that night after Raw ends, which will be shortly after 10 p.m. local time. If you are in the neighborhood, please drop by and enjoy the night with us. Many of the WWE Superstars are regular customers and regularly order our Sauces, Beef Jerky (97% fat free) and our Oklahoma grown peanuts.
Unless I miscounted, there are 7 bouts scheduled for One Night Stand this Sunday in San Diego on pay per view. All will have extreme rules to one degree or another, which makes for an interesting, albeit challenging, night. The good news is that we fans most likely will see clear cut winners and losers in each contest. This PPV is "Raw heavy" with 4 clearly defined Raw matches, plus the HBK-Batista match, which I assume Michael Cole and Mick Foley will call as they only have one Smackdown contest at this time as do ECW’s Mike Adamle and Tazz. From a broadcasting perspective, it looks as if The King will have to carry another multi-branded PPV.
At this time, Stone Cold Steve Austin has committed to attend the Annual Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion in Las Vegas with yours truly. It will be the first Vegas CAC event for each of us and should be a helluva experience. I am anxious to see so many old friends especially Bret "Hitman" Hart who will be receiving an award along with my old pal Dr. Death. Too bad the "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd won’t physically be in attendance as we would no doubt have us one helluva domino game!
Good to see Monday Night Raw heading back to Salt Lake City, Utah as it seems like it has been forever, much like Denver this past Monday, since we have been to SLC. Salt Lake City hasn’t sold out yet, but it certainly looks as if the June 16 live television event very easily could if the brisk ticket sales continue. I hope The King doesn’t do any in depth research on HBO’s original series "Big Love", set in Salt Lake City, or Memphis may stand to lose their most famous living celeb.
I hope I am never incarcerated or have any family members jailed, but if I do, I can assure you that I would become a letter writing fool and X-Nay…Phone-A.
Many of Oklahoma’s most celebrated athletes and politicos attended my pal Jack Mildren’s funeral Tuesday in Norman. I hustled back from Denver on Southwest Airlines in time to attend the services and pay my respects. Jack was tougher than a $2 steak and never mentioned to me once in any depth the situation he was in while battling stomach cancer. Jack would have rather laughed at a joke, talk sports, especially Oklahoma Football, or talk politics and he never once did the "poor me" routine even though he had been handed a death sentence. I still find it amazing that the man did his 3-6 p.m. sports talk show with Ron Thulin on JOX930 just 48 hours before succumbing to cancer. Jack kept his commitment and bravely fought his last opponent until the end. I’m sure going to miss Jack Mildren….the greatest quarterback to ever play football at Oklahoma University….but much more importantly Jack was as honest a man and as stand up guy as I have ever been around. Jack was a regular at our Norman Bar-B-Q place and loved our sauces, which prided me to no end. I’m sure the "Q" is better in heaven.
Be well everyone and count your blessings. Remember that tomorrow is not a guarantee and never take a day for granted.
J.R.

Regal woes…. Denver Monday Night Raw sold out early…. Foley’s new role…. Memories of Owen…. Bay Area Bonus
May 20, 2008
Tuesday’s announcement that William Regal has been suspended for 60 days from the WWE is regrettable on many fronts. When I was in charge of the WWE talent roster a few years ago we sent Regal to drug rehab as he struggled to overcome his issues. Regal eventually became a success story as he cleaned himself up and got on with his life and career. In recent years, Regal has been a hard working, reliable and viable member of the talent roster. As a talent perhaps even to the point of being under utilized in the eyes of some. I do not know the details of his recent 60 day suspension but I do not think that Regal has "fallen off the wagon" and retreated to his misdirected ways of years gone by. Nonetheless, something went awry and the WWE Wellness Program, which is more thorough and organized than ever before, dropped the hammer on the talented Brit. With no pay for 60 days, two strikes against him and a family to care for, Regal finds himself in a challenging position. Some weak minded individuals could "poor me" it and say to hell with it and revert back to those aforementioned issues, but, I do not think Regal fits into that category.
This should be a great lesson for every one on the roster….be careful of every thing one ingests, including over the counter supplements that might contain even traces of banned substances. Education again becomes a key term in this issue as it is incumbent on each individual with which this program applies to know what is banned and what is not.
Inevitably some wrestlers will always continue to try and "beat the system" and eventually they will be caught and punished. My gut wants to say that William Regal was not intentionally trying to beat the system, but nonetheless the blood work doesn’t lie.
I know that Regal has many peers who are pulling for him to return better than ever in 60 days and I count myself among them.
Great to see that this Monday’s Raw in Denver has been sold out now for quite some time. It seems like it has been forever since were in the Rocky Mountain area and I am looking forward to it. The last time I was in Colorado it was a long day at the office as the CU Buffaloes beat Oklahoma on a last second field goal to upset the Sooners. That was my first trip to Boulder and I can see why so many folks enjoy that beautiful part of America. I wonder if Dr. Death Steve Williams or Leon "Vader" White will drop by and say hello to their friends in the WWE while Monday Night Raw is in their home area.
Mick Foley, by his own admission, is finding his new role as the color analyst on Smackdown to be a challenging one, but the intelligent Foley will no doubt be his diligent self and become a mainstay at the announce desk over time. Over my many years at the announce desk I have seen some of the greatest promo guys ever join the announcers for commentary for a match and get completely exposed and not in a good way. Bottom line, broadcasting wrestling, especially in today’s ever changing marketplace, is not an easy job. Speaking in sound bytes, telling stories, being a narrator, asking questions without providing the answers and changing one’s vocal inflictions without always yelling are skills that takes time and effort to master. Mick Foley has never not given great effort and his knowledge of the business and natural sense of humor will serve him well as time goes on in addition to him continuing to develop chemistry with Michael Cole….if that is his real name. Mick may find that "finding his rhythm" as a broadcaster is just as challenging as getting hired by the WWE back in the day, even though that seemed to have worked out well for all involved.
Yours truly is still on track to attend the Cauliflower Alley Club convention, at least two days of it, on June 10-11 and I may have "recruited" Stone Cold Steve Austin to attend as well. Steve loves the heritage of our business and if his schedule allows he may well venture to Vegas and enjoy the festivities which most likely means my bar tab just took a hit. This is not a done deal but there could be a "Texas Rattlesnake" sighting in Las Vegas in a few weeks. I had better stock up on plenty of J.R.’s Beef Jerky for this trip as there may be a couple of "all-nighters" in my future in Vegas where a little snack is needed.
As I mentioned here a week ago, I really enjoyed my trip to Tampa, hanging out with the American Dream, seeing the WWE’s new state-of-the- art training facility and observing the young men and women train in hopes of some day becoming WWE Superstars. I did not go into any detail regarding the names of the prospects who I thought might have a better chance of making it than others and I likely won’t for the time being. First of all, it’s hard to assess talent in 24 hours or so plus I certainly do not want what I might write here to adversely affect or discourage any one in the program. However, I can say that the WWE cupboards are not bare but at the same time I did not see any one I would call up "tomorrow". "Don’t pick ‘em too green" as has been said in this space before.
That reminds me….I promised the "Dream" some more Chipotle ketchup….I’ve got him hooked.
I see where the WWE’s next event in Monterrey, Mexico is already sold out and it looks as if the upcoming 4 day tour of Mexico is going to do big business. The potential money that wrestlers will be making in the future in cities outside the USA is scary.
Wrestling fans in the Bay area of San Francisco and Oakland will get to see two Monday Night Raws produced on Monday June 9. One will be live, followed by a taped version, that will air the following Monday. The entire presentation should still be completed by 10 p.m. or so Bay Area Bomber time. Speaking of the Bay area, San Fran, the Cow Palace, long time wrestling promoter Roy Shire, etc do you think that any of the young tag teams of today ever think to watch tapes/DVDs of the combo of Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens who ruled that area for years? Patterson and Stevens were arguably one of the top 5 tag teams of all time and that statement may be somewhat conservative.
No, I did not forget that it was almost 9 years ago at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, the same arena Monday Night Ray emanated from this week, where Owen Hart fell to his death. We did not speak of it on air nor did I think that we would, but it was definitely a point of discussion for many of us during the day especially for the King and me on our drive down from Omaha on Monday. Jerry and I sat in the same exact spot this past Monday night that we sat 9 years ago on the saddest night of our careers. After Monday’s show went off the air, some fans in attendance started an "Owen" chant which was emotional for many of us that were Owen’s friends and especially for those of us that were actually in attendance that night.
We may not have spoken of the moment 9 years ago on the air but it was in many of our hearts throughout the day and evening. It’s impossible for me to walk into Kemper Arena without thinking of Owen Hart.
Thanks for checking out our on line store. I am told that this site will be back fully operational soon so we can begin our popular Q&A features. Bear with us….it could be this week.

J.R.’s Weekend Blog
May 31, 2008
Heading to California, where I was born January 3, 1952 in Ft. Bragg, for Sunday’s One Night Stand in San Diego and then a nice little 200+ mile drive up to Bakersfield for Monday Night Raw. The King and I are Road Warriors, not of the Hawk and Animal variety, but enjoy traveling together and often times drive for miles without talking about wrestling but when we do we generally "re-book the territory".
It will be interesting to see what bout closes the show on Sunday Night but my vote would be for it to be the TLC Match for the World’s Title between Edge and, if he doesn’t win it he leaves, The Undertaker. These extreme rules PPVs are challenging to broadcast because if everyone doesn’t pay attention there is the opportunity to duplication in some bouts which is always something one attempts to avoid.
I am anxious to see what changes are initiated on Monday Night Raw this week as it seems that several changes are rumored to be on their way. Last Monday’s lackluster TV rating for Monday Night Raw would certainly be reason enough to move these changes along as no one could ever be content with a 2.9 national cable rating. Personally, I am for longer match times and to see if some of the younger, talented individuals who have been developing, some for quite some time, can add to the mix and provide a "fresh feel" to the presentation. The announcers are talking less, which I have zero issues with quite honestly as it is television and not radio, but one could also make a case that the televised, talking segments could be more succinct as well. One man’s opinion.
It’s time to "reshuffle" the deck as the old wrestling expression goes and attempt to create new stars involved in new issues which might give cause for "business picking up".
As we reported here several weeks ago, it looks as if Bobby Lashley has pulled the trigger on the start of what might become a successful MMA career by apparently signing with the American Fight League. Hopefully Lashley did not sign an exclusive, can develop a body of work by the most obvious way available, win just win, and then be romanced by the big boys IE the UFC. Unless I have missed something observing Lashley while he was in the WWE, Bobby has all the skills it would seem to potentially become a factor in the MMA world but I also do not know what sort of "striker" he will be which seems to be an obvious key component in MMA. Lashley is a great natural athlete nonetheless and I wish him well.
Brock Lesnar finds himself in a challenging predicament on August 9 in his home town of Minneapolis in UFC 87 against tough Heath Herring who is a talented athlete. Is Lesnar in a "must win" situation already in only his second UFC fight in prime time (PPV)? Many insiders say yes and when the chips are down and Lesnar is somewhat "cornered" he can be an animal which is a necessary ingredient for success in MMA. Having the "home field" advantage can be a blessing or a curse as every family member, friend, cousin, etc wants tickets and can cause a huge distraction. Trust me on this one as I have had more requests for free tickets to the June 30 RAW in OKC than I could ever fulfil. I’ve always wondered why people who claim to be your pals wouldn’t want to simply buy a ticket to your event to support the cause. I don’t get free tickets to OU Football and would be embarrassed to ask.
The Ted DiBiase book that we reviewed here a few days ago is out on June 10. If you missed our review, you can still read it in the archived section of the site. I suggest you check out this 241 page, easy but informative read which focuses on Ted’s wrestling career and not that much on his Christianity. What do you think the next step for young Ted Dibiase will be who, BTW, looks like a young Bob Orton to me?
Seems like a natural move for the NWA to add Ric Flair to the list of those being inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame. Flair will be inducted by Jim Cornette which will no doubt be entertaining and informative as it relates to JC’s personal interactions with "Naitch". This event in Atlanta is next Saturday and from what I understand "plenty" of seats are still available.
Congrats to Chris Bell for his diligence in getting his film, "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" produced and in some theatres. I predict this film will do really well on DVD and it has one definite customer in yours truly. I despise the fact that athletes abuse their bodies by still using steroids and HGH and pray for the day that a conclusive drug test for HGH is developed, preferably thru urinalysis. Every sports and entertainment entity will always have its cheaters but closing all the perceived "loopholes" and getting as "healthy" a roster, no matter the team or company" should be the major goal for all that can affect this matter. One of the things that attracts me to MMA is the utilization of smaller albeit highly skilled athletes. The days of sports entertainers having to be "bigger than life" are history in my view. "Bigger than life" personalities and "bigger than life" skill sets however are still necessary ingredients for success.
I am told that our new look website will be up and "live" by Tuesday. That’s my story and we are sticking to it. Enjoy the weekend and I will be anxious to blog again when I return Tuesday from this road trip. I hope I have some exciting things on which to comment.
