While the SPECIFIC INCIDENT alleged has not been proven to have> occured, the GENERAL ALLEGATION has in fact been confirmed by the> Pentagon. At least 13 credible allegations of "mishandling" by> American guards and interrogators.>
No, 13 allegations have been made. Five allegations of "Koran mishandling" have been deemed 'credible', three of which have been deemed 'intentional'. Of these 'credible' incidents, we have been informed that they include a Koran being accidently dropped, a Koran being placed on a television, and a Koran being placed too near food.
The Newsweek story stated that the toilet incident was CONFIRMED in a government document. That was false. There has yet to be a single account of "Koran abuse" or "Koran desicration" being deemed 'credible'. The Newsweek story stated otherwise and stated that a government document proved that such incidents had occured. None of these things have been proven accurate. The facts have actually proven such occurances to be false. No amount of wishful thinking is going to change that fact.
In the future you should actually try to read past the headlines before you argue current events.

The story was false. The specific act never occured. He says that the Newsweek story, which claimed that government documents confirmed that the Koran was desicrated, was right. That is not a factual statement. We have a document which confirms the Koran was "mishandled". The examples given could in no reasonable way be considered "desicration".

What does that even mean?>
It means that:
"The STORY was that Americans at Gitmo were desecrating the Islamic holy book. The toilet story was one illustrative example of that desecration.
While the SPECIFIC INCIDENT alleged has not been proven to have occured, the GENERAL ALLEGATION has in fact been confirmed by the Pentagon. At least 13 credible allegations of "mishandling" by American guards and interrogators."
Was proven to be false by every report that has came out since the story. There were no "credible" "desecrations" and only FIVE confirmed "mishandlings" of the Koran. No "GENERAL ALLEGATION" from the Newsweek story has been confirmed.
The Newsweek Story stated that a government document confirmed that the toilet flushing incident had in fact occured. That has been found to be false. The mishandling has only been reported to have been intentional in three instances (which have been punished). The instances of "mishandling" have included a Koran being accidently dropped, a Koran being placed on a television, and a Koran being placed too close to food.
Your post includes quite a bit of misinformation which you have not included any factual backing for.

Newsweek however has removed the article from their website. The closest thing we have is an instance of an inmate throwing a Koran on or near a toilet ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7937016/site/newsweek/ ).

But if it did, it would be 100% accurate, since a government document does, indeed, confirm that the toilet flushing incident had in fact occurred.
Granted, I'm told that a later document insists that it didn't occur and the claimant had reneged on his claim, but then torture and coercion seem to be a way of life down in GTMO, and there are literally hundreds of instances throughout the recently released documents showing where people said anything their captors wanted to hear in order to stop the torture...which is, of course, why nobody uses torture anymore, because it produces unreliable results.
And an overview, along with thousands of pages of other government documents relative to the ritual abuse of prisoners in GTMO - including the deliberate use and mistreatment and desecration of the Koran as a means of psychological warfare - can be found http://action.aclu.org/site/PageServer?pagename=torturefoia
Not that, you know, I'd want to back up my post or anything.

So yes, Newsweek stated that the toilet flushing was "confirmed" when in fact it wasn't. All non Koran desicration allegations have not been confirmed and considering the source (anonymous, and not having seen any actual documents), you have nothing more than conjecture to base your arguement on.

Check page two of the article:
"Though complaints about the handling of the Koran were routine, the former interrogator said, the situation eventually escalated. "It was two things that brought the desecration issue to a higher level," the former interrogator said. "The rumor spread among detainees that a Koran had been flushed down a toilet and that some interrogators brought Korans to the interrogation sessions and stood on them, kicked them around." The former interrogator had not witnessed those occurrences."
