Stargate SG-1 *is* the best sci-fi series on television. Farscape was horrible with a bunch of crappy actors and puppets. Hell, the puppets were better than the real actors. Thank god they cancelled it...

Stargate is a bunch of shitty actors standing around in dumb looking army clothes talking, lame aliens, and fake looking special effects. Those "puppets" were the best thing about Farscape, I bet you're a Star Trak fan and you want aliens to look like human beings with makeup on their foreheads. Douchebag.

I do not agree. It appeared extremely pointless with more mindgames than actual creative thought about new technologies and space. Also, the lead actor in the series was usually unconvincing and failed to sell the scripts he was voicing. This is another one of those series in which it appeared the producers and Scifi Channel simply are not in this for the science fiction. They do not appear to believe in science fiction as an art form. They seem to have another agenda and in that series at least one of the crew had an androgynous appearance and persona.

IAWT. Ben Browder sucks and he's going to make Season 9 of Stargate SG-1 unwatchable. I wish RDA wasn't leaving the show.

I never heard that. You mean Browder is replacing Anderson ? They are both unconvincing actors. If they are determined to use a Scifi Channel guy, maybe the guy from First Wave, though Browder is taller and is American. Surely there are other actors out there. I guess I have mixed feelings about this: Anderson is by far the worst actor in science fiction history, thanksfully he is being replaced. But by a joke of an actor like Browder ? Browder would have a better shot in a daytime soap.

Most of what the sci-fi channel calls sci-fi is either backwashing old ideas that were done better years previous, or the best attempt they can make on ideas with TV budgets. Their hour of triumph was Dune and Children of Dune, and the rest really hasn't yet measured up.

Definitely, the Scifi Channel should be showing Dr. Who. I cannot believe they are showing crap like Quantum Leap, instead of Doctor Who, which is the show which began this whole Scifi world. What a disgrace.

In Farscape, they carry on the tradition and use Maglite flashlights.

Watch the first ep of both and tell us if you can see *any* differences other than in Firefly they use attempt to suggest they are in the US Civil War Wild West by using old revolvers.

Form follows function. Back when the props were being purchased for ST:TOS, they went out and bought a bunch of "wierd, fururistic" salt and pepper shakers for the mess hall set. Problem was, nobody seeing them on film could figure out what they were, so they stole a few regular shakers from the Desilu cafeteria, and that's what got used on the set. Oh and the futuristic shakers? They became McCoy's medical instruments.

Are you referring to the same show? The dialog was fantastic. Name 10 great quotables from any other SciFi series. B5 folks can name hundreds of faves.
and worst production of any show I've ever seen.
Sets? CGI? Costumes? Perhaps the pilot episode was a bit thin, but afterwards, it settled down into its groove.
Outside of it's core > fanatics, no one likes it, and it rightfully made a quick exit in to> obscurity once it ended.
Quite the contrary. The show was popular enough to be rescued in its 4th year. And no, it's not obscure. It has generated its share of TV movies.
In contrast, Babylon 5 had a rich alien culture, great character>> development, pathos, sacrifice, mystery, biological intensity>
Ooooh biological intensity! What the hell does that mean?
Storylines dealing with biological intensity - Alien cultures that would rather let their children die rather than get polluted by infidels, mass murders and extinctions, losing an eye without anesthetics, using "insane" telepaths to cripple starships, transformations from Minbari to blend, and Human to Minbari.

If you weren't aware, the PTEN network's demise was one of the factors responsible for the snafu. ========================== From Usenet: "Joe has stated several times that Babylon 5 is a profitable show for WB. In point of fact, it had to be or they would have canceled it before now. IIRC, Joe has even gone so far as to say that B5 has been *very* profitable for WB. "Against this profit motive are arrayed the facts of the legal nightmare that PTEN's demise has become and the glut of new syndicated programming that threatens to absorb all the available time slots while WB dithers." =========================== "This concerns Babylon 5's cancellation. (Slightly edited to make sense.) * In 1997 WB canceled Babylon 5 four years into the five-year story-arc (which everybody had known about in advance from the beginning). - even though at the time they had already worked out a deal with TNT to purchase the back episodes, which means a fifth season would have been Guaranteed Profit. - even though TNT also worked out a deal for a series of Babylon 5 TV Movies (More Profit). - even though they had already been in talks with the Producers for a spin-off series AND a theatrically released Babylon 5 motion picture (More Profit). - even though the episodes were just now being released on Video Cassette (More Profit). - even though only just now were Babylon 5 merchandise beginning to be made (More Profit). - plus the Fact that with Babylon 5 airing 5 times a week on TNT, more people would tune in to see the new fifth season to get a glimpse of what is to come (More Ratings). - plus the Fact that even casual viewers would have tuned in to see the final episode, knowing full well that Babylon 5 will get blown up real good, promising a high rated series finale and quite possibly the highest rated episode of the program ever (had it stayed in Syndication). - plus the Fact that when the show was canceled, its ratings had actually gone up by 14%.
IMO, if that is not the dumbest ever cancellation in the history of television, I have no idea what is. =================== End ==========================
