WWe In Deep Negotiations With USA Network

The Love Child Of Amy Dumas And Adam Copeland 12 March 2005 05:45:39
WWE IN 'DEEP NEGOTIATIONS' WITH USA NETWORK, WHAT THEY HOPE TO GET OUT OF
THE DEAL & THE NETWORKS THAT HAVE ALREADY PASSED ON WWE PROGRAMMING
by Mike Johnson @ 6:00:00 PM on 3/11/2005

The new issue of Broadcasting & Cable features an article about World
Wrestling Entertainment's plan to sign a deal with NBC Universal, noting
that Vince McMahon is in "deep negotiations" to return to the USA Network.

The article noted that McMahon is interested in using Universal's corporate
synergy to promote and air WWE via other Universal holdings, including
Bravo, Universal Pictures, and NBC.

The article noted that Spike TV passed on WWE programming continuing on the
Network due to McMahon's demand for higher broadcasting fees beyond the
current $28 million.

FX, TNT, and TBS have already passed on interest in WWE programming as well.

Because WWE gained so much from the "synergy" of Viacom.

They were told there would be a huge ad campaign (billboards, radio,
print, TV, etc) and I don't think WWE say even 5% of what they
thought they were promised by Viacom 4.5 years ago.

Well, they did have Heat on MTV for a while, until wrestling stopped
being popular and the network decided they needed that hour back to air
more Punk'd reruns...

There was one! They'd have, like, Lita paired up with Jean-Luc
Picard, and it would say "Come see the NEW TNN."

Then they changed the network's name and all that brand awareness
generated by the campaign got flushed down the toilet.
