More Rock In Be Cool Feedback

Ryan Sarpolis writes: First time writer, just joined the Torch VIP service a
month ago and am very pleased with it. I saw a screening of "Be Cool" this
week and thought the movie was entertaining. Not much in the way of plot,
but good mindless fun nonetheless. The Rock was definitely the star of the
show, as his performance was hilarious and genuine. His music video for "You
ain't Woman Enough' and his speech from "Bring it On" were highlights of the
movie, and he really showed his versatility, as he can play a comedic role
just as well (if not better) than his action roles to this point. Definitely
a breakout performance.

Luis Brandon Torres writes: Last night I got to see "Be Cool," and because I
care for my fellow man, I think it would be in your best interest for you to
wait for the DVD. It's not a bad movie. However, for the people like me who
have seen the first one, you will quickly realize that the sequel is no
different from the original. I am unfamiliar with the novel. Hhowever, in
the movie Chili Palmer (John Travolta) at times uses not only the exact same
actions, but also uses the exact same lines as "Get Shorty." For those who
have not seen "Get Shorty," you will surely enjoy this movie since it will
be a new experience for you, and there is a cast of very colorful
characters, which leads us to The Rock. The Rock is very funny, especially
his monologue scene, but I saw it already for free on Conan O'Brien. There
is one downfall for him in this movie, and that's "The Hype." The Rock has
gotten a lot of coverage, and it will make a lot of people want to see what
he's doing. However, he plays a small role. Do not go to the movie just to
see The Rock. Once again he is very funny, but he is not reason to see the
movie. "Be Cool" is funny, but far from blockbuster. John Travolta is indeed
the star of the movie, and doesn't seem to be as interesting to watch as he
was in the first movie. The predictability of "Be Cool" takes away a lot,
and if it weren't for Cedric The Entertainer, Andre 3000, and The Rock it
wouldn't be watchable at all. I give it 2 1/2 out of 4 stars.

J. King: I saw Be Cool and enjoyed it for what it was: funny, stupid,
random, and a chance to see The Rock in a different setting... but it went
on a little long. There is a great mix of celebrity cameos, so much so there
are some who are just there as fillers who don't even say anything (Fred
Durst, Wu-tang, Kobe Bryant). As for the actual movie I never saw "Get
Shorty" so I can't compare it. The plot, however, was dumb but if you've
seen the preview you shouldn't be surprised (though there are musical
performances that go on a little long but are very good). For wrestling
fans, I don't mind recommending it solely for The Rock's performance; a lot
of fun to watch. For everyone else, go see it if you are in the mood to
laugh and enjoy Vince Vaughn pretending to be black... I did... for a while
anyway. As a movie I give it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars for me... but with the
Rock I give it a 3.

Kene Chinweze of Austin, Tex.: I just saw "Be Cool" in a packed theater, and
the Rock had the place dying laughing. The movie was good because of three
characters - Vince Vaughn's inclination to act "black," Andre Benjamin's
character as an out-of-place gangsta rapper, and the Rock as an aspiring
actor/bodyguard who is sensitive about his homosexuality. To Rock fans and
wrestling fans alike, see the movie! His role was a lot larger than I
expected, and he was hilarious. Like the NY Times said, the Rock's monologue
was worth the price of admission and caused a tear to roll down my left
cheek. Kudos, Rock. Kudos.

If you see "Be Cool," send along a short review of around ten lines like
those above to: Torch Feedback.
