Live from Sacramento, Calif.). [Qi]. The show opened with video highlights from SuperBrawl. Backstage, Jeff Jarrett and the Harris Twins entered the building. Tony Schiavone and Mark Madden introduced the show. In the ring, Gene Okerlund attempted to introduce Hulk Hogan, but Lex Luger and Elizabeth came out instead. Luger cut an intense (at least as intense as he can get) promo about Hogan. Luger said he is sick of Hogan and his stooges, Jimmy Hart and Sting. Hulk Hogan walked onto the ramp with a microphone in his hand. Hogan pointed out a cage that was hanging above the ring and challenged him to a last man standing match for later in the show. The announcers hyped the show from ringside and promised an exclusive interview with Sid Vicious for later in the show (I'm sure that kept viewers on the edge of their seats. Jeff Jarrett, the Harris Twins, and a handful of women walked onto the stage for a promo. Jarrett said he had a contract signed by Kevin Nash which stated that if Jarrett didn't win the WCW Title at the PPV he would receive a one-on-one match for the title. Backstage, Sid Vicious emerged from a limo. Backstage, Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson searched for Kidman's camera.
[Qii]. [C] Backstage, Madusa threw a fit because she wasn't booked for the show. (1) Billy Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson) fought Lash LeRoux to a no-contest at 0:46 when the Harris Boys interfered. Finally, a Nitro match with possibility. Oh, thank God, the Harris Twins ran in and beat up both men to spare us from what could have been a really good match. [C] Backstage, the Kid Cam aired a shot of Buff Bagwell asking out Symphony. Symphony turned him down. Buff instructed her not to tell anyone their conversation had taken place.
[Qiii]. (2) Vampiro beat Fit Finlay at 3:12 with a roll-up. After the match, Finlay piledrove Vampiro and left him lying. Please tell me this won't lead to a re-match. Backstage, the Maestro beat up Buff Bagwell until security pulled them apart. Once Buff found out his face had been injured, he challenged Maestro to a match. What does WCW see in Maestro's character?. [C] Backstage, Okerlund interviewed Booker, but never asked him about the fat guy who attacked him the night before. (3) Booker beat The Mamalukes (w/Disco Inferno) by DQ when Disco interfered at 1:43. Before the match, Disco complained that he was scheduled to wrestle and offered to give Booker a tag title match instead. Booker dominated the action but Disco interfered for the DQ. Afterward, the darlings of the ratings (yes, I'm being sarcastic), the Harris Twins, ran in and beat up everyone. They used a double backbreaker move which they are calling the H-Bomb. Whatever happened to Horace Hogan, anyway?. Backstage, Madusa spoke to LaParka. Backstage, Okerlund interviewed Terry Funk and Dustin Rhodes.
[Qiv]. [C] Schiavone hyped Dallas Page's new book. Backstage, Okerlund interviewed Harlem Heat Inc. Stevie introduced the fattest of the three as Cassius. (4) Prince Iaukea (w/Paisley) beat LaParka at 1:18 to retain the WCW Cruiserweight Title. Oklahoma sat in on commentary. Madusa came to the ring wearing a LaParka outfit. Early in the match, Oklahoma entered the ring and took off Madusa's mask. The real LaParka ran in and hit Oklahoma with a chair. Iaukea took advantage and hit his finisher on the real LaParka and scored the pin. Iaukea, Oklahoma, Madusa wearing a LaParka mask, and the real LaParka, all in one match. Good lord. [C]
[Q1]. Backstage, Ric Flair stood aside and hyped Luger while Elizabeth did nothing. Whatever she is paid is too much. (5) The Harris Twins fought Dustin Rhodes & Terry Funk to a no-contest at 5:56. Jarrett sat in on commentary for the match. Late in the match, Jarrett ran in to interfere, but Sid walked out. Jarrett hit some ring crew guy with a guitar and left him lying. Jarrett ran backstage and into the parking lot with Sid in hot pursuit. In the ring, Funk tagged in Dustin, who turned by giving Funk a DDT. Rhodes beat up Funk until the ref stopped the match. Outside the building, Jarrett climbed into a car and left the building parking lot. Who decided to feature the Harris Twins four times in a little over an hour? Who decided to feature the Harris Twins in a match at the same time Raw was going on the air? Having Sid chase Jarrett took away from Dustin's turn as the turn didn't seem to be the focal point of the match. Too much happening at once. Backstage, Okerlund interviewed Buff Bagwell who looks to be turning heel. It's about time. [C]
[Q2]. Backstage, EMT's loaded Funk into an ambulance. Dustin Rhodes entered the area, threw Funk off of the stretcher, and beat him up. Okerlund interviewed Sid in the ring. Sid screamed that his match with Jarrett will take place at Uncensored 2000 which drew boos and groans from not only the live crowd but the 527 fans watching nation-wide. Backstage, security stopped Booker and Kidman from going after, who else, the Harris Twins. (6) Buff Bagwell beat Maestro (w/Symphony) at 2:02. In the end, Ernest Miller walked to ringside and taunted Maestro. Buff took advantage of the situation and hit the Blockbuster for the win. After the match, per his bet with Maestro from the PPV, Miller played Maestro's new rap entrance music. Maestro got mad and choked out the ref. A lame way to follow up Miller's hot James Brown angle from the PPV. A shot aired of The Wall as the show cut to break.
[Q3]. [C] DJ Ran hyped the crowd as Nitro Girls Chae and Tigress danced in cages. Highlights aired from WCW Saturday Night of Jim Duggan beating Robert Gibson (yes, that Robert Gibson) to retain the WCW TV Title which Duggan found in the trash. Afterward, Steven Regal challenged Duggan to a title match and said he'll retire from WCW if he is unable to beat him. (7) The Wall beat Bam Bam Bigelow at 4:09. Late in the match, Bigelow hit a top rope headbutt, but Wall kicked out. Later, Wall caught Bigelow on the ropes, chokeslammed him to the mat, and scored the pin. Backstage, Hogan punched at a cage and repeatedly said Luger's name. Apparently, since Sid holds the WCW Title, Hogan thinks he is over and is trying to emulate his interviews. [C]
[Q4]. Backstage, Ric Flair chewed out David Flair and Arn Anderson telling them to get their acts together. A shot aired of the cage lowering to around the ring. Backstage, Okerlund interviewed Hogan. Hogan said he would wrestle the match on his own without the help of Jimmy Hart or Sting. In another part of the building, Luger and Flair came across Jimmy Hart and attacked him. Luger and Flair dragged Hart to ringside and continued to beat him up. Why would they think anyone cares when Hart gets beat up? Oh, yeah, because he managed Jerry Flynn, Brian Knobs, and Barbarian. [C] (8) Lex Luger fought Hulk Hogan to a no-contest in 9:00 in a last man standing cage match. Luger and Flair continued to assault Hart at ringside. Finally, Hogan ran out to make the save. Security helped Hart to the back as Hogan and Luger made their way inside the cage. Hogan dominated the early part of the match. Luger came back, placed Hogan in the Torture Rack, and then dropped him. Of course, Hogan stood up, Hulked Up, and no-sold Luger's finisher. Seconds later, Hogan hit a leg drop on Luger. Flair ran in and attacked Hogan, but Hogan fought him off with ease and hit him with a leg drop. Hogan covered Flair and counted to three. In the most honest comment of the night, Madden ripped Hogan for being an ego-maniac for pinning Flair.
[Q5]. Luger woke up and helped Flair. Still, Hogan hit both with a double clothesline. Elizabeth slid a chair into the cage for Luger which he used on Hogan. Flair and Luger attacked Hogan for a minute until the company's top babyface, Doug Dillinger, ran in for the save. Luger attacked Dillinger while Flair locked the cage door (as if someone might actually care enough to run in and save Dillinger). Luger performed his stupid chair trick and "broke" Dillinger's arm. While Schiavone flipped out in concern for Dillinger, the show mercifully went off the air without a finish. It's surprising that the bookers would allow the Real People's Champion, Dillinger, to move onto a new feud before his angle with Tank Abbott was settled. The only positive things that can be said about the show are that it seemed to be more organized and the production continued to improve. Hulk Hogan is being pushed as the top dog once again. This time, to make him cooler, his best friends are apparently Jimmy Hart and Doug Dillinger. Start the pools with your friends to determine which WCW executive will be fired next. The favorites in no particular order are Bill Busch, J.J. Dillon, and Kevin Sullivan. Another embarrassing waste of two hours of television time. [JP]
