THIRD REPORT FROM HOGAN SIGNING IN MASSACHUSETTS by Stevie G. @ 3:33:00 PM on 5/30/2005
I know you have received many reports regarding the Hulk Hogan autograph signing this past weekend in Tewksbury, MA, but I feel it is my duty to let everyone know how disorganized this event was, and how disappointed hundreds of fans were. I found out about this autograph signing about a day and a half before it was scheduled, and a couple buddies and myself decided to find replacements for work as we were scheduled, to be able to travel 9 hours to meet the immortal one himself. I, along with six others who traveled down from upstate NY, were very excited to finally meet the Hulkster. We decided before we made plans though, to call the World's Gym to find out if we could get more than one item signed, or if we had to buy an autograph, and if we could pose with him for pictures, etc, and some other questions.
Well, we called 4 or 5 times, and spoke to different people who were coordinating the event, and they gave us direct answers. Firstly, they said we could get whatever we had with us signed, and that he would "definitely" be able to "pose with fans" for pictures. We wanted the photos more than anything because it was such a long trip. So at 2:30 a.m. we embarked for Tewksbury, MA with great hopes of what would follow that day after meeting the Hulkster. We are all big wrestling fans, and travel all over Canada, NY, NJ, and PA for tons of signings, indy shows, and WWE shows. But THIS signing, was the one we were waiting for a long time to finally happen.
Needless to say, we arrived at the Gym and what was the first sign we saw? "Hulk Hogan will only be signing the World Gym's Third Year Anniversary shirts today" which only cost 25 dollars. We were kind of upset, after they told us anything we had with us would be signed for free, but we didn't care too much because we were finally going to meet Hulk. Lines started forming, and we had great position and were expecting to be one of the first groups to meet him, as they said there would be no member privileges. Well, contrary to their words, there was a VIP line starting if you knew anyone whatsoever at the Gym, or if you signed up for a year membership for 125 dollars. Hulk arrived, and everyone was pumped to meet him, and the line started moving.... except it was only one line; the VIP line. The VIP line kept getting bigger and bigger as security didn't even check if they had passes or not, and when the VIP's came out of the signing they would hand off their passes to friends or people who wanted to buy them for next to nothing as security didn't even notice they were recycling tickets. Finally after roughly 2 hours after the session began, they slowly started to move the public line. We finally got inside, and it was very hectic. I have never been treated so badly at a wrestling function in my life, along with hundreds of other fans. Security didn't do their jobs, and were physically pushing people through lines. I finally got up to the Hulkster, and some woman tried to hand me a presigned photo before I even got up to him. I handed it back, and he grabbed my book and signed it. I told him how far we traveled, and asked for a photo with him, and he said "take it quick" as he was signing my book. My friend went to take the photo and the security said "time's up," and literally pushed me practically down the stairs. No way was I going to travel 9 hours, for 5 seconds to be treated the way I was.... I ran back to where he was signing as security tried to push me again, and had a woman take a picture of me standing about 5 feet away from him, just so I could have some sort of memory of remembering this legend.
I honestly can't believe I was treated the way I was at this signing, and will never, never, travel to this Gym in Tewksbury, MA ever again. If they had told me what was going to happen before I went, or told me they were just going to hand people pre-signed photos without even getting to shake Hulk's hand or even have him look up at you... I never would have gone on this trip. I gave up a full day's worth of work, and didn't even get to shake his hand or even have him look at me. Yes, I do get to finally say I met Hulk Hogan after so many years, but it is not something worth remembering as it was truly a lousy experience.........
