MORE EARLY FEEDBACK ON TONIGHT'S ECW PPV By: 1wrestling Readers 12/3/2006 2:33:16 PM
From Evol Inside The biggest thing i'm seeing EVERYWHERE on the net, is the constant complaining and bellyaching, usually post anyone saying "i'm an original ecw fan from way back" or something to those lines. Let me just say, that i ACTUALLY watched ECW from aug of 95 till the last show, ordered ALMOST every PPV, and my simple comment to anyone who says those two things together, OR is simply saying i can't believe that they've only announced two matches (which its actually 4) is, FINALLY VINCE DID IT RIGHT.
That's right, that comment will make everybody's stomach turn, but its the truth. Every ORIGINAL ECW ppv had, 3-4 matches announced, and the rest of the card was just thrown together. Barely Legal is the only ppv, i can think of that didn't follow this formula, as they announced about 9/10ths of the card before hand. Most of the ppvs in 99, had, a world title match, a tv title match, a tag title match and/or some specific grudge type match.
Most anything New Jack ever did....not announced. Only half the stuff the Dudleys did....was announced. Who were Dreamer and Raven gonna have a match with at Anarchy Rulz 99....well the rumor was ICP, but they backed out apparently, and they took on Corino and Rhino. Van Dam was supposed to wrestle one guy and ended up wrestling Balls Mahoney.
Regardless, i still won't buy the ppv, because the current product does nothing for me anyway. Its not anything near what ecw was, and most of the guys on the ppv don't really, have that star quality for matches going in, that makes me think "there will be some good stuff on this deal" I mean, Punk is good, but he ain't THAT good...Sandman/Davari....yeah, again, thats not gonna be good. MNM/Hardyz might be ok, who knows....i'll keep my 40, and watch a friends copy sometime later in the week.
From Jimmy H I will definetly not be ordering tonight's ECW pay-per-view tonight and my advice to anyone who actually enjoyed the original ECW is to avoid it as well. Stop making excuses! I'm tired of reading these fans saying "Well, it's been bad for eight months but I'm gonna order the pay per view and if it sucks, I'm done with ECW". No, you're not. You're gonna keep watching. If you've sat through Big Show defending the WWECW title against Raw & Smackdown wrestlers, the arrival of Test, and lame cartoon character gimmicks then you will keep watching. Vince McMahon and the WWE have pretty much publicly admitted that they don't care for the old ECW and don't know how to handle the new one. Why not save your hard-earned money and wait for it to come out as a rental on DVD? Do you really think there is going to be anything that happens on this show that is gonna be worth blowing $30 to watch it live? Maybe John Cena will show up or maybe DX. It will be just another awful WWE show. I haven't watch ECW for free (save a couple of times channel surfing on a Tuesday night) since the terrible Philly show. The writing has been on the wall that this brand is going to die off soon. They haven't developed a decent roster. They haven't added new belts. They've spent more time promoting main events that involve guys from Raw and Smackdown coming in than in working on building up their own talent roster. Even these attempts at angles are awful throwbacks to 90's WWE storylines. Paul Heyman turning on the ECW locker room to "save it"? Now that makes sense! After all these years, he decides that he doesn't care about the fans or the locker room? Wait a minute! After typing that, I realized something. This is a lot more realistic than I've ever gave it credit for. And what was with that Kelly Kelly striptease? Did those months of pointless build-up ever pay off in a credible storyline that made you want to watch ECW even more? I'm guessing not. ECW has been dead for awhile. It's time for these grieving mourners to bury it already because it's been stinking up the house for too long. It amazes me that the "creative genius" Vince McMahon managed to take something that could have made him tons of money had he just listened to the fans and gave them what they wanted to see but instead, he went to his market research and told us "People don't want this, they want big, loud arenas and such and such". Stop telling us what we want and start listening! It's incredible how out of touch the WWE is with the average wrestling fan.
From Ian Bowden December to Dismember - such an apt title, maybe even an inside joke, as that is exactly what WWE seem to be trying to do to ECW.
After the first One Night Stand, Vince had a problem. He realised people still remembered ECW. He'd got past WCW nostalgia by burying them in the invasion angle and making their people into WWE stars. But fans always remembered how people like RVD and Taijiri wrestled in ECW. So he puts a DVD out, to show how the company collapsed. That backfires as not only does it reinvigorate old fans, it garners ECW respect from newer fans.
So he decides to have ECW as a third brand. It will be a short term cash cow, but his longer term goal is to bury it for good. He gives RVD a tainted win over John Cena. He then throws Kurt Angle, who years earlier had walked out of an ECW event with a bitter taste in his mouth, into the main event picture. Add a few mid to undercard WWE stars, and the laziest big man in wrestling, and you have a greatly watered down product. Next turn Paul Heyman against his own company's former stars. Mix in a new guy that can actually wrestle, CM Punk, just to give the fans a little bit of hope.
Less than 6 months after starting the organisation, withdraw all its house shows but announce a new pay per view. 24 hours before the event, only announce one match that includes any original ECW stars, most of which jobbed badly at the Survivor Series seven days earlier.
Blame a horribly low buyrate on lack of fan interest, giving him an excuse to send over more WWE stars that creative can't find anything for - just to keep the extra TV time.
I'm not one of those people who assumed WWECW was going to be like the original, nor did I think it could survive alone on its old stars. But it could have been so much better. It could have been the place where people who can wrestle but can't carry a horrendous gimmick can show off their talents. It could have been an alternative that stopped fans flocking to TNA.
The old ECW should have been allowed to rest in peace....but Vince seems determined for it to be in pieces.
From Nick Heflin I am Quite pissed about this ppv, but i will be ordering it anyway. Only to see RVD, Punk, and Sabu. Shine on the stage they should be on. I truly feel Vince is trying to kill ECW. I think the Chants finally got to him (ECW ECW ECW).The only way he could stop them was to kill them himself, FN Ego-maniac. Hopefully RVD jumps ship and goes to TNA. Imagine RVD vs Joe, RVD vs Angle, RVD vs Daniels, and the ultimate dream match RVD vs Styles. Gives me cold chills. If RVD doesnt win the strap tonite im done with ECWWE. WHO DEY
From Joel Second HaHa, no i will not be ordering this PPV, I stoped watching this "New ECW" Crap in early october. But i will go to the One Night Stand PPV in NY, to witness how the true ECW fans will react to this sh*t... "Change The Channel" lol
