| Video Clip - Homemade SUP - old Windsurf Barge converted to Standup
PaddleBoard? Alan Ballow 17:35:31 |
| | Maybe a year or two ago somebody posted a video clip here showing an old WS board that a guy had put about 5 bucks worth of glass on to convert for SUP'ing. He'd also done the same with a paddle. Does anybody still have that link or the clip? The video showed him on a wave with the gear. Looked good to me. TIA

| OT Giant Skyscaper with wind turbines Alan White 23:16:07 |
| | How would your view by way of the wind? This building looks like a giant sail that twists:

Too bad they can't use the turbines for green power. Perhaps they are, but to use the energy for spinning the building seems like a waste.

| | Eh, yeah. Pryde is the worse. Why the plugs? Looks cleaner? Buy more masts? They certainly are not more secure.

Anybody else out there get annoyed with the head plugs that are now found on most sails? You know, the ones that come in various non- standard diameters that usually don't fit in the top of your mast, so you have to remove the corresponding female plug from the mast tip, or find the one that fits that mast tip and that sail. And then while you're downhauling you have to go and check to make sure it's properly seated. And sometimes it twists out of the mast anyway, or comes loose from its webbing strap, And then you need tools to rethread it on the strap. Or it seemed like the right fit, but when you're derigging you find the plug jammed and stuck inside the mast tip (that happened to me yesterday, prompting this post). You know what I'm talking about? What is the point of these things? What was wrong with plain old headcaps?

Clay,
FYI, I think rec.windsurfing is pretty dead. I think if you want more of a response, I would head over to iwindsurf.com and post on those forums - there's more activity and less OT spam (but plenty of flaming). It has died off some, but I think there are a lot of lurkers out there. So many of our topics have been exhausted and a search through archives finds a lot of information on just about any question. Anyway, it's a pretty place to stay in touch.
FWIW, I subscribe to Windsurfing Magazine, New England J, Windsports, and Clay's magazine. There's no fear of competing with each other regarding my subscription. Clay, you don't even need to count the images between each magazine. You kind of contradicted yourself when you agreed with Dana that what other mags do is irrelevant to what you do, and then you count the windsurfing images. Just do your thing. Josh is a good guy too.

| | I got one, actually to replace my Gulftech boom head, not so good, at least for me, boom slips down, skinny shim is real good though, and on skinnies it doesn't slip. Next time, I'll get MS boom head....

On my older Gulftech booms I've been using Streamline Strap-On heads and those heads are starting to show problems so I'm considering which replacement to go with for the upgrade. I like the looks of the MauiSails replacement boom heads, but they are out of stock on the MauiSails website. As an alternative, I'm considering the HPL Pro- Level Plastic boom replacement heads. How do they perform? Do they hold up to intense usage?

The Al-Farsi family (the owners of the Kuwait Mega flag) have turned their attention to weight lifting. Here is a Youtube video showing a test flight lifting a quarter of a ton... Looks like a huge Nasawing modified for single line operation.
Looks bloody dangerous, too.

| | Great pics from Yellowstone, Josh! Sounds like a very fun trip for you. You're only a day and a half away now, unless you do more exploring. I had a buddy from Idaho once who claimed some of the lakes there were as good as The Gorge. Hope you get to sample that.
