05 Ezzy SE 6.3 ....

Copek 26 April 2005 13:08:39
hi ... thinking of getting one ... anyone using one?

it will replace my 6.2 2001 NP Expression, which i like for its light weight
and get you going factor.

i have ezzys in other sizes, but was always wary about getting a big 'un as
they are generally more about top than bottom end. however, apparently the
05s have more bottom to them.... can any comment on this?

i weigh 70kg, am pretty good at getting going in light winds and will be
using it on a 94L Maui Project Style M, for lightwind wave, freestyle(ish)
and general cruising.

cheers,

C

However I have found that I have great bottom end period.

Braggart ;-)
I am starting my fourth season on Infinities and SE Waves (new quiver> every year) and I love them.

Double braggart 8-0

Had a 2001, 6.3 Ezzy Wave. No likey. Sold it.

Rented the '03 SE, 6.3 in Maui a couple years ago and hated it! Felt wimpy, unresponsive and
heavy compared to my Pryde Search 6.2 which I used this morning in 15-25 and head high
waves. (The Pryde sails are built like crap and have a borne-on date just a bit longer than
Rolling Rock but boy are they crisp and light.)

You're 10 kilos lighter so that could make a huge difference. At 190.5 centimeters and 80
kilos I just can't sail the modern Ezzy's. The smaller guys love 'em though.

Haha. Very well put. I've onwed a few myself in my early years. Great
sails as long as you could keep the repair tape on then.

I had heard of people using a stiffer(?) mast than recommended just in
cases as yours.

Just get new 2005 SE Wave 6.3. Did not have much time on water yet (used
it just twice) but I already love this sail! Sail is light, feels very
stable and range of sail is UNBELEAVABLE! BTW: I'm not that light - 190
lbs. I used the sail with 460 Gaastra RDM mast.

thanks for all your replies ... v interesting!

Andrew : you say it has great range ... is this purely high wind range? can
your comment more on the bottom end power of this sail in particular, or
maybe compare it to other similar sized sails?

thanks again.

I'm glad you stated the mast that you were using as it really makes or
breaks a sail. Also, a sail rigged with too little downhaul will feel
heavy. I'll take a mediocre sail rigged properly over a
top-of-the-line sail rigged improperly any day.

I rig my sails on the exact recommended mast for the best
performance...for my weight of course.

I tried the 6.9 SE but was not happy with it as compared to my 6.6
Infinity. It did not have the high wind range that the Infinity had. I
ended up going with the Infinity and just the bottom cam. Perfect!

I would say SW Retro 6.5 (I used to have whole quiver of retros)
probably has a little better bottom end, but there is no significant
difference.
