Sure was good today. iWindsurf had two updated forecasts. The initial
forecast was calling for big sail wind at the most. By 2:00 the winds
were in the 5 meter range. I hit the water right at 4:00 and was
completely comfortable on my 5.2 and small board. The winds were
almost directly onshore at Buckroe making for some exciting shore
break. Twas a sweet day for sure.

Sounds good! I'm going to head south to Charleston, SC this weekend. Looks
like the timing is better for drier air, plus it's a lot closer for me and I
haven't sailed there for a while.

I enjoyed reading your article in The NEJ yesterday. Can you imagine being
stuck out on the reef when that front came through?

We almost were. At least they were. I knew better. I saw the gradient
and the 180 shift along with the temperature drop so I knew something
was gonna come down fast.

When I saw it coming I told the others that we needed to get back
closer to shore. They came back but then started to make a short run
out. I was too chicken and started to secure my gear. When they
realized just how fast it was comign up on us they managed to get to
shore less than a minute before it hit us.

Being out on the reef may have been better than in between because the
visibility was so limited that there would have been no frame of
reference for getting back to shore. One could easily sail i nthe
wrong direction and get lost out there. At least at the reef you'd
know which way to sail once it was over...asuming you survived it. :)

I've been out in the water during wind shifts....like Saturday at 2:00 PM in
Charleston, but whenever the cloud bank comes and it looks rough I head for
the shore. Speaking of Saturday....it was really good in Charleston, SC.
4.7-5.2 most of the day from the SW. At 2:00 PM it switched abruptly to the
West. That was pretty cool too, because West is side-off at Isle of Palms.
Had some decent rides...and lots of jumping on the waves churned up from the
SW winds. Sunday was just too NW for the coast so I sailed at the lake on
the overpowered 5.3.
