I've sailed Berkeley and Sherman on a wind like this. Berkeley is
definitely better, Sherman isn't all that much fun on a North wind.
However, even Berkeley isn't going to be all that great. Have you
looked at the spread? It says average 19 right now but the lull is 9
and the gust 28. Treasure Island looks like a good bet, it says 15 to
26, which is more manageable, the direction appears to be side on shore
too, however, I think the wind direction is going to be a bit shifty.

I've sailed these early spring northerlys for several seasons and broke
things every time... either gear or body... the adrenalin and desire is
there...the conditions are terrible: shifty, gusty and painful... Go
at your own peril... I'll wait for the onset of "sea breeze"...it's
already beginning...just bring a good size sail. Perhaps it's because
I'm over 50...

My 2 cents...

Go around to the Ashby beach or Emeryville launch area.

In the strong offshores (N, NE), Windy Cove on a flood is the call.

Its just south of Oyster, just north of the airport. I believe its the Grand
Ave exit. Its an old landfill, and there is still stuff under water there so
you have to be careful. Usually never more than a few people there as
rigging and launching are next to a few small warehouses, and doesn't look
much like a sailing spot. On the usual thermal days, Tigers is often the
windiest place around as it is dead down wind from a gap in the hills. Dead
offshore, and fast as hell. A little less gusty than the Stick.

Mapquest it: Haskins Way, South San Francisco, CA.

On real hot days without a hint of marine layer in the San Bruno gap, it
can be the only place on the bay with sailable wind. Don't even try it
on a low tide, you need +2 feet or better.

IMHO, Flying Tigers has the worst tasting water in the bay. I've heard
rumors of an old battery factory there, it wouldn't suprise me.
