900ZXI Rebuild questions

Darin Ginther 28 April 2005 17:30:51
 I'm not a 2-stroke guru.. I'm doing a top end on my 900ZXI.
I had compression failure on the #1 cylinder, pulled the head and this is
what it looks like:

A few questions:

1) Does this cylinder need to be bored (best guess based on photo)?
2) What kind of hone do you typically use on a ski like this?
3) Good source for gaskets / top end parts?
4) What pistons do you guys recommend?

I don't know why it failed - the ski had 105 compression across the board
right before this (below service limit) - so it could be age.
I guess it could be oil starvation also.. I may go to pre-mix.

What year was the ski? Was it used in salt water quite a bit? It looks
from the picture that there is a bunch of corrosion around the water
passages is why I ask. You might have better luck in getting your question
answered at the forums of www.sbtontheweb.com or at www.pwctoday.com This
group is pretty much dead.

Ben

"New" ski to me. 1995.
It was beached a bit, based on the bottom. The outside of the motor looks
good, I don't really know about salt use. Last owner didn't use it much.
The white stuff isn't sand - but it isn't salkt either. Looks like generic
mineral build up to me.

#1 piston defininately dead... Is it possible for one passage on the oil
injection to fail?

Based on SBT's forum, this looks like lack of lube...
