Which package would you choose?

Herb Schanke 1 June 2005 01:15:22
Newbie looking to buy first pair of PWC and looking for some input. I've
been to a couple dealers and I'm trying to decide between the used models
each one has. Family includes myself, wife, and three boys (16, 13, and 9
yrs. old).

Dealer 1 has a pair of 1996 Yamaha Waveraider 760's with a floor price of
$5,000 ($2,500 each). Dealer 2 has a 96 SeaDoo GSX ($1,900) and a 97 SeaDoo
GTX ($2,900) for $4,800 for the pair. Assuming similar condition and
operating hours what are the pros & cons of the two packages?

The GTX is the only 3 seater, but I really don't see us towing a tube or
skier very often or having a need to ride three people at one time, although
it would be nice to be able to.

All opinions and suggestions are welcome.

First of all, there's 5 of you, so that rules out the 2 waveraiders if you
ever hope to do any touring, or going to a remote beach / island, etc.

Second, with the small kids, you want something real stable, and easy to
reboard in deep water.

The Seadoo GTX is a WONDERFUL boat (I have one) it's fun, comfortable, cuts
the rough water and is reasonably fast. It also has a good deal of storage
for towels/ food/ drinks, etc.If I were to have only ONE ski for my family
it would be a GTX, hands down!

The GSX, although a 2 seater has a much wider hull than most 2 seaters,
which also makes it very stable at low speeds. It's fun, sporty and you can
carve up the water pretty good with it.

Prices don't sound too bad from a dealer. Do they include a trailer ? YOu
might also try to negotiate some type of warantee. Even if it is only 30
days or so, just ot make sure you don't get it on the water and find out the
engine runs like crap or something.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Raiders, but for your
particluar situation, there's no contest IMO.

Hurry up and buy the Seadoo's and start having fun!!!
