Slapshot

What's the best way to impove your slapshot off ice? My 12 year has a very
good wrist shot but a very poor slapshot.

Thanks for any information.

Yeah, but the bang against the end boards the puck makes
during warm up is a key intimidation factor.... Not to
mention the respect of your teammates.

The slapshot is all about weight transfer and stick flex.
You can get "practise ice" sheets of plastic that do a good
job of imitating ice for shooting. Get him to work on
technique off ice. Power will come as he ages. Don't let
him take shortcuts on technique for short term power.

 I say, " Good!"
Fundamentals first.

Unless he is way above average in strength for his age he won't have a
decent slapshot.
I would get him to work on a quick, hard, precise SNAP shot now. This
shot has a very quick release and is key in front of the net and the element
of surprise.
As well, the slap shot is basically a snap shot once the stick contacts
the puck, just has a bigger wind up.

Tell him not to hit the puck but the ice 20cm before the puck.

You haven't read the coaching manuals then. 2cm behind the puck, but not
20!

True, 20 cm was just to make the point. Put 2 cm, well, it depends
on strength and stick you are using.
