Just when you thought you have seen it all, Golfsmith comes out with this.
Creative concept, be interesting to see if this becomes the newest fad.

If a player CONSISTENTLY makes contact with the toe or heel, as the> article states, why wouldn't they just move closer or farther from the> ball to compensate?>
Good point.

I think the concept that is being sold here is instant gratification. You
have a swing flaw, change a screw or wieght and you are fixed. Of course,
it is not all that simple. Hooks, slices, shanks, etc can be multifacotrial
and changing the config of a club really guarantees nothing. I have seen
more R7's at my club of late. The guys are still topping them and hitting
them into the swamp and woods.

I would rather resolve a swing flaw by trial and error or good instruction,
than banking on a quick fix like this. To me, this is what makes the game
all the more interesting. You are always a work in progress. We have a
mentality in this society, that quick fixes can always be bought. If you
can't get a boner, you are just a pill away. If you are soooo depressed
because your boss don't like you and others are passing you by, you are just
a pill away. Or just call a televangelist, and your problems are just a
prayer and tithing away. Golf has become victum of this same mentality. It
is good marketing IMHO, given the mind set of the marketplace.

Why? If the problem is that a player is consistently making contact on
the toe of the club, they could move an inch (for example) closer to the
ball, so they they are set up on the heel of the club. Nothing changes
except the distance between them and the ball, they are just set up on
the heel, instead of the middle of the clubface. I don't see how that
would change the lie angle in any way.

Just another example of design-follows-marketing.

It seems to make more sense to me than adjustable wood heads which have been out
for a while. After all, adjusting the lie of club heads has been around for
a long time.

But the main thing they're selling is their "gee wiz, what a neat toy" aspect.

People have been playing with lead tape for decades. They need better feel
than I have though.

That would be a good idea if your swing doesn't change.
