Whose business is it? Do you other people to decide what's best for you at this stage of your life? -- bill-o
A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers neither of whom can putt very well.

Ben
The entry fee for the local qualifier was $100, and she got to play two competitive rounds of golf at Turtle Bay. How was that a waste of time? What would you have her do, go to the mall?
The only complaint that you could possibly have was that somebody thought her performance was newsworthy. Well, if you don't like seeing her in every golf news story, then don't read the article, DingDong! Sheesh.
By the way, only 5 men scored better than her, and she outdrove the guys in her group by 20 yards on occasion.

She can't. She's already committed to the maximum allowable number of professional tourneys through exemptions.
Even still, why should she bother flying all the way to podunk Georgia to play in a non-major LPGA tourney on a 6400-yard course, when she can play in her own backyard on a 7200-yard course? Her goal is to challenge herself. Which is the bigger challenge?
Maybe she should try winning at her own level first.

It's not the MEN'S US Open. It's the US Open. Open to all who meet the criteria. Your dog can try to qualify for it if she has a low enough handicap.

Note the parentheses. W/O the "mens" designation, it could have been> construed as the women's Open for all anyone knew.
No, it would not have been construed that way. Michelle has already qualified for the U.S. Women's Open by virtue of her 13th place finish last year. Why would she have to go through another local qualifier for tournament she's already qualified for unless you feel it necessary to give her the extra requirement that she win an LPGA tournament first?
Just a distinction.
No. It's really a reflection of your attitude about women "being in their own place". You're a closet sexist and don't want to admit it.
My dog doesn't play golf, though. Oh, and it is still a waste of her> time.
I guess it was also a waste of time for the 49 other men who didn't qualify nor were chosen as alternates. Why bother even having a local qualifier tournament? They should just draw straws. Better yet, why don't they let Ben-Ben decide who gets to go to the sectionals?

Competing with others trying to qualify? Sure, why not?

The Golf Channel panders to the viewing public. Just like every other channel. But that's not what you were criticizing, you were criticizing her decision.
FWIW, I don't begrudge anyone the opportunity to qualify: Should every> qualified applicant be allowed to attempt to qualify for the US Open?> Jais. Does that mean he/she should? Absolutely not.
