no he didn't lose to John Rollins, and he's won 10 of those non-cut events

And I'll guarantee you would be wrong. During the so-called "streak, he was either 29th or 30th place at a Tour Championship (out of 30 players) after the 2nd round, with a full field he would have EASILY missed the cut....
That is a bit of a stretch. The 120 guys not in the Tour Championship are home that week because they missed a bunch of cuts over the past season.
Manco is usually wrong because his hat size is bigger than his IQ.

I think he may be able to get it back by the end of 2006.
Could happen much sooner than that. All the players ahead of him on the list are capable of missing a cut pretty much any time.

You make a wonderful argument for not counting any of Nelson's events where he was in the bottom half after 36. You note that Tiger shot 75-76, but you forgot to mention that he then shot 69-69 to finish 20th. And that is 20th in a field of the top 30 golfers of 1998, not 20th in a field of the physically unqualified to serve. In other words, if he was playing in the 1940's, it would definitely have counted as a made cut.
And yes, this event (1998 Tour Championship) did have US Open-type scoring. It was the top 30 golfers of the year, and only four of them finished under par. Ten golfers (Tiger was not one of them) finished ten or more over (Nick Price was +17). Tiger beat Payne Stewart by two shots, even though Stewart was ten shots ahead of Tiger after 36. In fact, only two players shot lower than Tiger over the last 36 holes.
If you're good, like Tiger and Byron Nelson, then having four rounds to make a cut is a tremendous advantage over having only two. The more rounds they play, the better the chance that the cream will rise to the top.
IMHO, a streak should only count those tournaments where it was possible to miss a cut. So re-counts of both Byron's and Tiger's streaks are in order.
I do have two cases which I'm ambivalent about though: 1. When a tournament has a multiple-month delay between the start and the end, and a player doesn't choose to show up to the delayed part of the tournament, is that a cut? 2. When a tournament has two cuts, and the player makes it through the first one, but not the second one, which one do you count?

That's not the point. Yes, his streak was extremely impressive> regardless, but how can you include an event from which it is> IMPOSSIBLE to be cut? Match play events and the Tour Championship, for> example, don't have cuts so therefore should not even be factored into> the equation.
Especially counting the match play event in which he lost in the first round. It should not count.

I agree. I think his number should be 137, which includes only those no-cut events where he finished in the top ten.
regardless, but how can you include an event from which it is> > >IMPOSSIBLE to be cut?> >
Ask Byron Nelson. None of his events had cuts.>
I'm not saying Byron's streak is any more legitimate. All I'm saying> is that if people are going to tabulate stats on consecutive cuts made,> they need to apply sensible criteria.
I agree. If Byron's cut isn't comparable, then don't compare them. But don't count cuts made if there was no cut.
