Re: Did we just see the greatest shot in Masters history?

That shot will be on ESPN about 10,000 times tonight on SportsCenter and win an ESPY Award. You can book it.

It thought it was going to just sit there, but as you know, it just barely dropped in after what seemed like a few seconds.

I am watching but missed this play just seconds after it occurred. Why do they not have TV replays in golf? And did someone just make a hole-in-one before Tiger's shot? Why was the crowd going berzerk?

LOL! Absolutely. This is the difference between 2000 Tiger and> today's Tiger.>
Ben
Yup, he's human, and chokes. That siren sound on 18 had to be distracting. To the point he couldn't muscle through that rough. Well here we go, 18 all over again.
Davis Love holed a very similar shot a few years ago. He needed it to stay in the tournament at the time, but alas, he did not go on to win and they never show it anymore since his name isn't Tiger Woods.

they replayed it at least twice and, yes, Trevor Immelman made a hole in one just before that on 16 that was only shown on tape Dave
I think the greatest shot was still the chip in by Mize in a 3 way playoff with Norman and I can't recall the other player. I forget what year too, maybe 1987?
Tiger was great today but still nowhere near 2000 form. If DeMarco's chip on 18 went in (and it should have) we would all be talking about the biggest choke in Masters history. Tiger's putting and driving are still way too erratic to be dominating, although his shot making around the greens is incredible.
Give Tiger credit for taking advantage of the wet greens in the morning and getting 7 birdies in a row, but without the rain delays, he never would have won because that make up 9 holes saved his butt. We saw the real Tiger later on when the greens firmed up.

Should Tiger's wedge shot that hit the pin a foot off the ground on Thursday have bounced off the green into the sand trap with a terrible downhill lie?

Without the rain delays, perhaps he would have had a great first round. It's easy to "guess" what might have been. Jack might have shot 8 under. Phil might have shot a 59. Or the winning score might have been Fred Funk at +1 where nobody could hold the greens or make a putt.

Obviously, a majority of the shots that went anywhere near dropped.
Why would Nike want to pay Augusta for the rights or pay networks to air a> commercial using that clip when it has already received substantial free air> time around the world.>
You will have to ask Fred Taylor, he's the one who mentioned the odds of Nike not using it in their ads.
But realize that in a week or so that footage will be off the air, only to resurface next spring when CBS begins running Masters ads again. And those ads will only be on CBS. I am sure Nike would like to be able to use it in their own ads and on other networks.

Nevertheless Augusta still owns the footage. And in order to use it for anything ANGC has to approve of it.
There must be 19 gazillion approved or legal photographers there who have the shot and would be more than willing to sell it.

Not quite that many. Are photographers and spectators allowed above the hole where the CBS camera was? You'd need that angle.

But a photograph isn't what Nike will wan't. They want the footage and unless some photographer had a video camera and legally owns the footage and sells it to Nike they can't use it in their commercials.
That said AGNC might play nice and allow Nike to use it, or Nike might do their own version so people can see the Logo and name better.

I doubt it. They are very strict about media access at The Masters. I am sure there are some photogs, but not hundreds or even 100. And given the lay-out of the 16th hole, I'm don't think anyone on the ground could have gotten a good shot of the ball going into the hole. You almost had to be in the TV tower to get that shot, or anything close to it.
One thing people also forget is that Larry Mize birdied the last hole just to get IN the playoff!
